I really enjoyed this article due to the simplicity of the inforgraphic showcasing the information in a colourful and engaging way. As there are several types of social media such as facebook, twitter and tumblr (blogs) having media stratergy for each one is important. All of them have different communiction features and different target audiences. Kamal has chosen well and agreeing with emma that this really links well with the week 7 lecture topic.
Christine IMC's curator insight, September 26, 2013 10:15 PM

This is a good article as it uses infographics which makes it easier to understand and take in the idea of developing and implementing a media strategy and in this case for social media. The first 4 steps are the basics to developing a strategy and then it expands on it with not great detail but just the quick basic information one needs to know. Although one thing it doesn't mention though is analyzing a market or finding a target market which I beleive helps within the process of developing a strategy, knowing what potential customers to target or what market or segment.

Selina EverHungry Nihalani's curator insight, October 6, 2013 6:23 PM

In today’s market, social media has become an essential factor of building a business strategy. It is very important that we approach and engage customers through social sites. In the beginning of this article, it shows that a successful social media strategy depends on establishing a sound business goal. Goals must be defined clearly to utilize the appropriate social media in achieving the business goal. After the goals are set, it is also important to define the metrics and tactics. This is because these will measure whether the social media efforts are creating consideration and conversions with the target audience. Through this process, companies can evaluate and measure success and failures, and prepare for a better business strategy to succeed in social media.

Can You Gamify Content Curation? New Startup Woisio Thinks So | GigaOM | DV8 Digital Marketing Tips and Insight | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article on GigaOM:

"Many video curation startups do away with the old-fashioned programming guide to help users find TV shows and online clips. Turkey-based Woisio, which launching its private beta Monday, takes a little bit of a different approach: it keeps the guide – but gets rid of the programmers. Woisio wants to instead use game mechanics and collaborative filtering to compile a new set of channels, and in turn get rid of the traditional middlemen.

Here’s how Woisio works: The platform offers viewers a number of different channels, called stages, including comedy, style , music, politics and so on. Each of these channels is programmed to show clips at a certain time, but users can skip forward or go back and catch up on past programming.

Videos can be up- and downvoted, much like stories on Reddit.

The votes translate to a virtual currency, which the publisher of a video can then use to bid on future air time for other clips. The basic idea behind this: Publishers get rewarded for popular content, and programming becomes a bit of a marketplace. Think virtual stock exchange, but for content curation..."

5 Ways to Improve Your Facebook News Feed Exposure

5 Ways to Improve Your Facebook News Feed Exposure | DV8 Digital Marketing Tips and Insight | Scoop.it

Facebook Edgerank: What you need to know to improve your Facebook marketing. Discover how to calculate your reach and grow your audience.

Excerpted from article:

"If you already have a decent fan base, it makes more sense to first focus on reaching your fans before you shift your focus to growing your audience.

Here are some tips:

#1: Calculate Your Reach:

You need to know how well you’re doing at reaching your fan base.

How do you find out what percentage of your Facebook page’s fans you’re reaching? Go to your Facebook Insights and average your reach for the last 30 days, then divide that number by your fan count.

Facebook has claimed that Facebook pages reach 16-17% of their fans on average. And typically, the more fans you have, the lower the percentage you’ll reach.

#2: Always Post Photos:

Choose the right type of content to share on Facebook.

Of all the types of content you can share, photos give the best results. Photos are most engaged with and reach the most people.

#3: Stimulate Engagement:

Try one of these four kinds of posts to generate engagement:

- Caption contest;
- Multiple choice;
Fill in the blank;
Inspirational quotes;

#4: Create Viral Exposure:

Ask users to upload their photos in a specific category. They are consciously (or subconsciously) participating in an ego contest. Often on Facebook it seems like we succeed most when we take advantage of the momentum of our fans’ self-interest.

#5: Build Fans Virally and Drive Revenue With Sweepstakes and Coupons:

Sweepstakes can build fans more affordably than ads, they’re engaging and they’re fun. Lots of pages do them.

Here are five tips for successful fan-building sweepstakes.

1) Be creative, but keep it simple.
2) Make sure the prize is related to the brand.
3) Give folks an incentive to share.
4) Look for strategic partners to co-brand with.
5) Keep the entry form short. Less is more..."

Each tip is analyzed with more information and some examples.
