So, whether you’re still struggling to measure social media effectiveness or simply want to declutter your measurement efforts, here’s your minimalist guide to social media metrics.
Define Your Goals The bedrock of minimalist social media metrics is knowing what you are, what you do, and what you want.
In other words, you have to start by working out how social media fits into your brand’s overall business goals and objectives. Is social media the introduction, the deal-closer or something else altogether?

Venkatesh - if I am able I give my site as much media support as I can. As a social media trainer I need to 'try out' media before I can teach others to use it and give an insight into which is useful and which is not. So I tend to put my site and what I am doing out on the various social media platforms at least twice a day - I don't over emphasise my site because that can be counter productive (people switch off if all they see from you is self-promotion) and so it is keeping your presence alive but not switching off potential clients by constant ME, ME, ME. I perform both SEO services and social media training for others (see - just a bit of self promotion LOL)

Jayne, Thanks, but to be truthful, my comment wasn't addressed at anyone specific! I was just trying to get all readers (of my comment) to reflect on the extent to which they (positively) use social media to support their site. I am very interested in feedback in this issue, because I have been dithering about launching my site for a long time now.

For Google’s competitors, it’s another challenge in keeping up. Google Now is already doing amazing things anticipating searches. Now Google’s conversational search is allowing searchers to get casual with the service, plus it sets things up to entice searchers to share more of their own information directly using Google’s other services, so they can speak things like “what’s happening today” and very personal answers. This is so true. I don't think people out of this industry fully embrace the importance of social signals nor do they understand what social signal is. I guess that's what social media managers are here for!
Daniel Imbellino's comment,

They're what drives my websites today. Search engines are leaving the prospect of figuring which content is good or bad up to the users themselves. When you +1 something you are effectively "recommending" that content to all your followers on G+, in which those in your circles could see the content you +1'd in search results.
