Trong Diễn đàn An ninh lương thực do Phòng Thương mại &Công nghiệp Việt Nam (VCCI) và Tập đoàn DuPont (Hoa Kỳ) vừa tổ chức tại TP.Hồ Chí Minh, bà Farra Siregar - Giám đốc điều hành DuPont Việt Nam cho rằng, Việt Nam là một trong những nền kinh tế phát triển nhanh nhất châu Á với tốc độ phát triển dân số tương đối nhanh. Hiện Việt Nam có dân số khoảng gần 90 triệu người, dự kiến đến 2020 dân số sẽ tăng lên 100 triệu người. Do vậy, những thách thức mà Việt Nam phải đối mặt trong việc đảm bảo nhu cầu ăn uống, đảm bảo dinh dưỡng cho thế hệ sau là rất lớn. Cũng theo bà Farra Siregar, mặc dù Việt Nam đã có nhiều tiến bộ đáng kể trong việc giảm tỷ lệ suy dinh dưỡng, nhưng vẫn còn 14% dân số vẫn bị suy dinh dưỡng, đặc biệt là ở các vùng nông thôn, vùng sâu, vùng xa, vùng miền núi nơi có đông đồng bào dân tộc sinh sống.
