“Now I existed solely thanks to the quantum paradox, my brain a collection of qubits in quantum superposition, encoding truths and memories, imagination and irrationality in opposing, contradictory states that existed and didn't exist, all at the same time.” ― Robin Wasserman, Crashed

  • WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

The  key factors are: Learners’ age, back ground knowledge, the purpose of learning, the learners’ circumstances (employed, students, unemployed, etc…)

  • DO YOU HAVE THE COURSE CURRICULUM?

In many cases the course curriculum does exist, for example: National Curriculum, University course modules , In-house corporate training.

  • WHAT EXTERNAL PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS NEED TO BE MET?

All external examination bodies provide an exam guide or syllabus which you have to insure your course will address them.

  • WHAT IS THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT?

Would your learners attend any face to face classes? Do they access their course from home, work, or college? Do they work as a group or individuals?

Kiruthika Ragupathi's insight:

this article provide techniques that take two tasks that most instructors dislike—administering pop quizzes and “cold calling on students”—and place them in the hands of the gods of probability! And following a little randomness into our classrooms can have a positive effect on learning outcomes!

Have you tried such techniques in your classes? Share them with us here!

Students must be provided both with a strong foundation on which to build and link new knowledge, and an understanding of what that knowledge will be used for. In order to achieve this we need to rely on the research base and evidence emerging from discipline-based education research (DBER)—a field that combines deep disciplinary expertise with knowledge and understanding of the science of teaching and learning. This paper presents a short overview of these ideas

Kiruthika Ragupathi's insight:

Cooper highlights four key points that is important to consider if you aspire to provide students with a strong foundation on which to build and link new knowledge, and an understanding of what that knowledge will be used for.
