Dallas Thompson's insight:
I chose this article to show that the drug epidemic does not only exist in the US. Other countries are struggling to get ahead of the drug war. It's become where people think that it's safe to make their own homemade drugs which might be more dangerous than the drug itself if the right information about different drugs and chemicals isn't referenced. Too many people are dying becuase of the unsafe uses of drugs and it is becoming impossible to stop the violent epidemic. All of us should be aware that we are not the only people struggling on this matter.
This article should be alarming to everyone in the US. We try so hard to lower the rates of drug addiction, yet we allow kids to get on drugs at such a young age. This is another example of how the drugs we use to help manage extremely life changing diseases become drugs that we begin to use out of context, because we are not aware of the side affects it can have, especially on children with very young ages. Before giving a drug to a child, research must be done so that we can be aware of what might happen once the child is given a drug, especially if the child is given it on a regular basis. We can't count on the children to be aware of what they are taking so the adults looking after them should be more cautious and care enough to take the time and do the research on the drugs given to their children.
This article appeals to those who don't understand what smoking around someone can do to their health. When people smoke and get addicted to different drugs they don't take into account that they are not only hurting themselves, but they are also hurting those around them. Those who are more easily affected may be their own children. When people have children and they choose to smoke or use drugs, they are faced with answering the question, "Is this drug really more important than being a good parent or even a good friend?" Secondhand smoke is just as dangerous as smoking straight from the stick. Smokers need to realize it's not just about them. This article demonstrates the affects a smoker can have on their loved ones.
I chose to make this article apart of my page because everyone needs to be knowledgeable about the different types of drugs. They also need to know what effects the abuse of a certain drug can cause. This covers the whole topic of drugs, their shorterm/longterm affects, and what other problems can arise if the victim does not seek help.
Drug addicts 'can quit smoking' with additional therapy Medical News Today New research from the National Institute of Drug Abuse, a part of the National Institutes of Health, suggests that people who are addicted to cocaine or methamphetamine are...
Dallas Thompson's insight:
This article can benefit those who are struggling to quit both smoking cigarettes and stop their drug addictions. It relates to the study of drug addictions because it focuses on how getting treatment for one substance abuse can be more helpful and also treat the abuse of another substance safely. This is on my page because those who are struggling with their addictions need to see that solving one problem can open doors to solving others as long as they are willing to put in the work to end their addictions. This article provides another option for addicts to really get back on the right path.
Today the Obama administration hosted the first-ever White House Conference on Drug Policy Reform. But don't be confused: Although "drug policy reform" usually means moving away from the use of violence to stop people from consuming arbitrarily proscribed psychoactive substances, that is not what President Obama has in mind."
The citizens of the US should be informed on what decisions are being made in the White House that affect all of us. This article shows us that drug abuse is not just coming from the criminals locked up, it's also coming from our streets. This tactic suggests that the way to stop drug addiction or decrease the rate is to threaten the dealers with jail time. This means that the best way to take down a problem is through the source right? WRONG! Although getting the drug dealers off of the street may do some good, it will not permanently end the drug war. We have seen that when people can't get to their drugs they will be willing to do anything to find some source, so why would getting the dealers now off the street really imact the rates? Drug buyers can become drug dealers without any college degree, so it's not like there will be a break before the epidemic emerges again. What happens if taking the drug dealers out of the picture causes more violence because the buyers will become more vicious in order to get their drugs? There is a lot of factors that have to be taken into consideration when it comes to how to end the drug war, not on a temporary basis but permanently becuase drug addiction can end this world quicker than it's suppose to be.
Heroin is an opiate, a class of drugs that are either naturally derived from the flowers of the poppy plant, or synthetic substitutes. In the case of heroin,...
Dallas Thompson's insight:
I chose to scoop this video because it lets people know just how dangerous Heroin is. The increase in Heroin addiction is something we all have to look out for. Doctors prescribe medications that contain heroin in hopes of reducing a patient's pain, yet they don't realize that in this process, the heroin is also shutting down the patient's frontal lobe; this is specifically the part that allows us to make good decisions such as not running into the middle of the street. This video can be helpful to everyone and allow them to be more cautious and alert to those who are addicted to heroin. This video provides insight on what the drug heroin can do to someone's health and just what an addict would go through to get the specific drug. We have to be more knowledgeable about these deadly overused drugs so that we know how to deal with these addicts in order to minimize the crime and addicition rates.
Chris was a carefree, 18 year-old man when he moved into his first apartment. He didn’t have a lot of money but he had his freedom and independence. But one fateful night took away his beloved freedom and independence in an instant.
This article should catch the eye of many scientists doing research trying to find treatments and cures for accidents and diseases. When it comes to drugs everyone thinks of all the bad things that are associated with them, yet no one seems to keep in mind all the good that drugs can do as well. Although there are some bad drugs out there, people can't say, "this drug ruined my life." It's not specifically the drug that ruined your life, it's the unsafe overuse of the drug. In this case you can clearly see that some drugs do in fact help you, so what can you say when a drug really does help you, but because you choose to continue to help yourself to it when it is no longer needed, you end up becoming addicted and your life gets flipped? Do you blame the drug or do you blame yourself for not being as responsible? All of us should become more open minded to the good that drugs do and not only focus on all of the bad.
Keeping Teens Away from Marijuana and Other Drugs. While it may be true that alcohol and tobacco use among young people have decreased over the years, it seems a different case when it comes to teen marijuana use.
I chose this article because although it doesn't directly talk of the drug, it talks of the kids using and abusing them. Too many teenagers are getting involved with drugs such as marijuana, and they are smoking cigarettes. This article reaches out to the parents who are having a hard time getting through to their kids on just exactly why it is important to stay away from drugs without consent from a doctor or anyone knowledgeable about the drug and its effects.
This article is a reason people should be more careful about the drugs they choose to take. Everyone should be interested in this article because it shares how addicitons ot pain killers is the top addiction there is in the US, over marijuana. More and more people are dying because they are not properly using their drugs or they are abusing them. People need to be more aware of the affects these drugs have to their health.
