About Renée Anne | Doping in Sport - A Jamaican Insider's Perspective | Scoop.it

Welcome to the site "Doping In Sport - A Jamaican Insider's Perspective." I've been deeply involved in the fight against doping in sport for over a decade and I am curating this site with the aim of providing viewers with a steady stream of breaking news and current issues globally re doping in sport.

I also curate 2 companion sites: "Match Fixing & Corruption in Sport - The Spider's Web http://www.scoop.it/t/match-fixing-corruption-in-sport-the-spider-s-web. I believe that these issues => Doping in Sport + Match Fixing + Corruption are all inextricably linked just like the silken threads of the Spider's Web. No matter how faint the connections may seem they need to be explored to see where they lead us.

And "Human Diversity in Sport: An inalienable right for all" http://www.scoop.it/t/human-diversity-in-sport-an-inalienable-right-for-all which seeks to promote acceptance and inclusion, and identify barriers that inhibit participation by all persons in the sport of their choice, specifically issues related to sex, gender and human rights.

So please join me on this journey.

Feedback is always welcomed.

this is an issue that doesn't get enough attention and is a serious issue in sports. Doping needs to be taken more seriously due to the unfair advantage it gives athletes.

2012 Olympic women's steeplechase champ fails doping retest | Doping in Sport - A Jamaican Insider's Perspective | Scoop.it

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Yulia Zaripova, the Russian gold medalist in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2012 London Olympics, was among 12 more athletes sanctioned Monday after testing positive in a reanalysis of their doping samples. Zaripova was among seven medalists — all from countries of the former Soviet Union — disqualified retroactively from the London Games after their stored samples were retested with improved techniques and came back positive for banned substances. Also sanctioned Monday by the International Olympic Committee were nine weightlifters, a hammer thrower and a long jumper.

Within hours after the release by Russian hackers of U.S. athletes’ doping results, Victor Conte, the Bay-Area based figure at the center of the BALCO scandal, a guy who knows what’s what when it comes to the doping scene, sent out a note Tuesday to a wide email circle. It said, in part, “This is gonna get ugly.”

Gonna get ugly?! This is ugly from the get-go. And it’s likely to stay ugly for the foreseeable future.

IOC sanctions 16 athletes for failing anti-doping tests at Beijing 2008

IOC sanctions 16 athletes for failing anti-doping tests at Beijing 2008 | Doping in Sport - A Jamaican Insider's Perspective | Scoop.it

Press Release

17 November 2016 - The protection of clean athletes and the fight against doping are top priorities for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as outlined in Olympic Agenda 2020, the IOC’s strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement. To provide a level playing field for all clean athletes at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the IOC put special measures in place, including targeted pre-tests and the re-analysis of stored samples from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012, following an intelligence-gathering process that started in August 2015.

As part of this process, the IOC today announced that 16 athletes have been disqualified from the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.

Investigation into Russian doping still splits sports world

Investigation into Russian doping still splits sports world | Doping in Sport - A Jamaican Insider's Perspective | Scoop.it

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Anti-doping leaders were challenged to produce more credible evidence of Russian cheating by a leading Olympic executive on Saturday. Leaving a meeting of the World Anti-Doping Agency executive committee, IOC representative Gian Franco Kasper dismissed the credibility of the report that detailed Russian state-sponsored doping. Manipulation of samples at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games and cover-ups of positive tests across dozens of summer and winter Olympic sports was reported by WADA investigator Richard McLaren in July ahead of the Rio de Janeiro Games. "I want to see the proof," Kasper, who is also president of the skiing federation, said in Glasgow. "We cannot say it's correct or not. He has to bring proof with names."

Analysis: Further ADAMS leaks targets 25 athletes in 8 countries | Sports Integrity Initiative | Doping in Sport - A Jamaican Insider's Perspective | Scoop.it
The Fancy Bears internet site has exposed adverse analytical findings (AAFs) and Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) relating to 25 athletes from eight countries, after confidential information from the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS) was published this morning. While the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) condemned the leaks as a ‘criminal attack’ that ‘recklessly exposed personal data’, the further leaks are bound to raise questions about whether the TUEs exposed are related to a genuine medical need, or are being manipulated to help athletes win. The targeted athletes include ten from the United States, five from Germany, five from Great Britain, one from the Czech Republic, one from Denmark, one from Poland, one from Romania and one from Russia.
