GwynethJones's insight:

Is Ask.fm Evil or AWESOME? Social media Q& A anonymous site w/ FB & Twitter integration

Ask & Answer is HUGE & growing w/ US kids because of the anonymity - AND because parents and grownups don't know much about it. There has also been some reports of suicide due to cyberbullying on it. Before parents,  teachers, or admin freak out about it - check it out.

I also see how this could be used by the savvy teacher or librarian to get feedback but that would or could also turn dicey. You now CAN block & report users making bad choices & delete spam or inapropriate answers -  but you can never find out who wrote them.  That's the kid allure.

What do you think?

To understand any new trend I always try & join it - to get a sense of it.Here's mine:

A lawyer rewrote Instagram’s terms of use ‘in plain English’ so kids would know their privacy rights

A lawyer rewrote Instagram’s terms of use ‘in plain English’ so kids would know their privacy rights | Social Media: Don't Hate the Hashtag | Scoop.it

Amy B. Wang writes: "It’s no secret that teenagers love social media.

Members of “Generation Z” can spend up to nine hours a day sharing photos on Instagram, consuming “content” on YouTube and talking to friends on Snapchat. (Just don’t ask them to get excited about Facebook.)

But how much do these teens understand what they’ve agreed to give up when they start an account with those sites?

Probably very little, according to a report released last week — and dense terms and conditions that are “impenetrable and largely ignored” are partly to blame."

Be sure to click on the report to see the rewritten terms and conditions. Do your students understand all their DMs are mined by Instagram (and do they care?)
