The Dominican Republic sold a
record amount of bonds in the nation’s first offering of 30-year
dollar debt since 1994.

The Dominican Republic is taking advantage of its lowest borrowing costs since June. Proceeds of the new debt sale will be used to fund infrastructure projects and support other sectors of the economy; it will cause inflation and the depreciation of the DR's peso, but if the money is put to good use then the economic expansion could be long-term.

With the promotion of enterprise among women, there is a continued expansion of business opportunities. When women begin getting into enterprise, there is usually an increase in education and health care. This can help further develop the country's gini coefficient to a lower number. It is also a perfect example of the power of micro-loans, which helps people get on their feet without really making it "charity."

A large influx of immigrants from Haiti to the DR would provide cheap labor, upsetting the job market. This would therefore be very opposed by citizens. However, it goes beyond simple immigration to the definition of citizenship status and human rights. If certain aspects of the proposals go through, a lot of people born in the DR could be expelled and create a labor shortage. It could also decrease the consumer base and overall harm the GDP.

The globalization of DR's economy increases trade and thus revenue throughout the world. As demand increases for Dominican goods and services, more profit can be made and jobs will be created. With the increase in employment and consumer spending, the overall economy will improve and the currency will likely appreciate.

CAFTA allows for increased trade between the U.S and the DR, which means that the U.S will be supplying more natural gas to the area. The development of energy in the DR marks increased economic activity, and a rising population. Also, many investors involved in the program contribute to the DR's net flow of capital.

Barrick mines in the DR, and if the merger occurs it could mean further expansion in the area. Job growth and investment would be helpful, but ecological disasters could also occur. However, it could also have little effect due to the offsetting factor of the plunge of gold in recent times.

This is an example of the rampant drug-related violence that occurs in the DR.This impedes economic development by scaring away investors, who can't be sure of the stability of the system. The crime also decreases tourism and portrays corruption.

The town was built at a cost of US$24.4 million by government agencies, much less than the projected 188 mil. This is the DR's first planned town and will house more than 546 families upset by the rising water levels of the nearby river. This is continued economic expansion and increases the GPD through government spending, creating new jobs.
