The issue of domestic violence is not new. One only needs to dig deeper under the surface a little to actually uncover how common this problem is and how alarmingly high the statistics are. Whether it’s violence against women in countries like India or on a global scale, the effort required to eliminate the issue is almost herculean considering the proportion of the problem.

 

For all those people who are involved diligently in the process of trying to find solutions and raising awareness about domestic violence, one of the roadblocks in the process is the number of cases that go unreported.

 

It is both alarming and sobering at the same time that a large number of victims who are suffering domestic abuse don’t actually seek help or assistance for it. This is detrimental, both for the victim as well as the people who are trying to find a solution to the problem of how to stop domestic violence. Here are a number of reasons why the victims don’t reach out. Fear of retaliation by the abuser is one of them and lack of education as well as no knowledge of the services and help available are the others.

 

However, as someone who http://www.bellbajao.org is being tormented it is important to now that the first step towards any kind of change is actually seek it. A lot of times, the victims hold on to the hope that the abuser will change and stop but that never happens.

 

The truth on the contrary is that the longer the abuse goes on, the more damage it causes, both psychological as well as physical. Also, by not reporting the issue, the victim is giving the abuser an upper hand and it encourages them in a way to carry on the abuse unabashed.

 

For the victim, the first step is obviously to recognize that she is being tormented and abused. There is a pattern that the abuser follows that can be easily identified. It is important to realize that the longer one stays in an abusive relationship, the more toll it takes on the self-esteem. Recovery is that much harder and can lead to under-confidence and even depression.

 

When it comes to seeing help, there are a number of avenues that can be looked at. Victims can confide in a friend, a family member, or someone else that they truest like a doctor or community member. Once the first step is taken, it will become easier from there until full-fledged support is available.

 

The victim of abuse has to realize that they are not alone. Trying to get over the feeling of isolation, shame and helplessness is imperative. That being done, the road to recovery becomes easier and more walkable.

Domestic violence as a social problem is very deep-rooted. Violence against women in India or even in the world is on the rise and requires immediate, pro-active attention. One step in this direction is to report abuse and seek help.
