A man with a history of violence who subjected a woman to a "sustained and brutal" assault by kicking, using weapons and pulling her by her hair while standing on her back has been jailed for a maximum of seven years.

Laws to do with parole need to be amended, in order to ensure that the maximum sentence is received by perpetrators protecting all victums and possible future victums.
