Mario Pires's curator insight, April 7, 2:38 AM

Sometimes I find myself thinking, ‘I don’t want to take this picture.’ It’s the sound of your moral and ethical being, which is ever changing. I love what I do, or at least can’t imagine doing anything else. But these days, every time I get all my equipment together to go, I wonder if it will be the last.” - Paolo Pellegrin

Jon C's curator insight, April 10, 7:06 PM

This does give that feel of a Dutch  artwork, where all the figures have been carefully place - except it is a photo of a meeting of war lord types in Afghanistan. Photojournalism is a complex art.

Best of 2013

Best of 2013 | Documentary photography | Scoop.it

Help me find my best picture of the year and run the chance of winning an art print.

Geopolitics, Inuit culture, exploration, landscape, travel. Here are my finest photos of the year. A photographer is often not the best editor of his own material. I chose some because they have been difficult to do in an intense environment and they tell the story well. Others asked me relational work and patience or madness (like going to sleep alone in the tundra, without weapons). In any case, here they are. Finally, it is my selection.

What do you think? And what is THE best?

Members have been out and about producing incredible work in the world's hot-spots and lesser-known locations. Here's a quick look at the successes, coverage and personal work of (just some) of the FFR members this year. It certainly gives a flavour of what we have been up to.

Marc-André Pauzé's insight:

"I was thrilled to learn that the young girls were here to see this wonderful work. At the same time it also brought a touch of sadness to my heart. I remembered another photographer who is no longer with us, Alexandra Boulat, who died after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2007 at the age of 45. She was a pioneer in her own right and her work belongs in the exhibit too. I miss her spirit, courage, wonderful eye and love of telling stories."
