How can impact metrics help documentary filmmakers attract more funding?

How can impact metrics help documentary filmmakers attract more funding? | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it
we often hear media makers saying they want to “change the conversation” or “raise awareness” around a particular issue or injustice. These are valid ambitions, but not yet measurable goals.

The Crossover Summit 2015

The Crossover Summit 2015 | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it
Quite fittingly, this year’s summit on new technologies and interactive media was hosted in the city’s oldest chapel on the second day of Sheffield Documentary

"Today, online apps are making more money than the whole of Hollywood’s box office and in the film world one thing is clear, the lines between documentary and interactive media are becoming increasingly blurred. Mutations of interactive media are often born out of technological innovation, but these changes also arise from a strong will to find new ways to tell challenging stories. Underpinning the day’s conversation was an unswerving conviction that VR holds the potential to educate, entertain and engage audiences."

Watching the watchers – how VR can be a participatory experience

Watching the watchers – how VR can be a participatory experience | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it
I’ve always been a bit skeptical. With most new formats and technologies, I find that people get really excited about the bells and whistles, but don’t spend as much time focusing on quality content. It takes a little while for the “fervor of the new” to die down, and for people to realize that just because something uses a new technology, it doesn’t automatically mean the finished product is actually interesting.

Echoes of Feminism

Echoes of Feminism | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it

"We need to solicit your efforts to fund and open a Gender Studies Museum in Madison, Wisconsin. To do so, you will be going back in time collecting artifacts from different people and events in history. Along the way you will learn about feminism and become part of the movement itself- but be careful! Just as women have constantly faced roadblocks in the quest to gender equality, you will also be faced with opposition. However, if you collect enough artifacts, the museum will open and another step will be taken to end gender oppression and inequality. Good luck."

Interactive Filmmaking Round Up Report

Interactive Filmmaking Round Up Report | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it

"Over the course of a year, Sheffield Doc/Fest collaborated with Crossover Labs and film festivals around the country to run a series of workshops on interactivity and filmmaking. All six interactive platforms: Klynt, Racontr, Korsakow, Popcorn Maker, Treehouse and Storygami, give filmmakers the ability to create interactive elements for their films, without the need for a programmer to build them.

(...) My role was to attend every workshop, try out the platforms, and write a report that would explain what each of them offers to filmmakers who wish to add interactivity to their films."

Production Process of “Do Not Track” | MIT – Docubase | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it
Production Process of “Do Not Track” - The open documentary lab

"Writing for i-docs is a challenge: multiple types of media, interactivity, personalization all have to go into the script. How do you organize all this information? How do you create a script format? This is a complex question, and the storyboard of Do Not Track reveals some interesting solutions. Interactivity is communicated through state-based storyboards, where a user is not just at a timestamp, but also has several variables attached based on personalization and prior choices. "
