Multimedia, Crossmedia, Transmedia… What’s in a name?

Multimedia, Crossmedia, Transmedia… What’s in a name? | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it

"I’ve written elsewhere that we’re living through a Cambrian Explosion in the ecology of media. Suddenly — if you think about the last few decades as a fragment of the timeline that stretches back to before cave painting — we can tell stories in so many media forms and on so many media channels that it would make Richard Wagner jealous enough to steal a magic ring. We can make our kunstwerk more gesamt than ever before."

Nicolas Bole explains why the site "Le Blog Documentaire", directed by Cédric Mal, has decided to consider the webdocumentary as cinema itself.

What is interesting is not so much the short debate over the genre popularity, but the features that Bole identifies in the web documentary:

- the web multiplies new manners of storytelling starting from all kinds of sources (news, politics, sports, but also art, dance, poetry, etc..)

- our role as a spectator changes

- the emergence of new patterns of perception
