Where to go if you Crossover? A journey @ Doc/Fest Interactive - i-Docs | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it

excerpt:

"Sheffield has diversified its proposition this year to reply to the growing complexity of the field… so it has expanded and spread throughout several days. As a result the Crossover Summit is not “the day” anymore, but just one of the many interactive propositions of the week"

by Sandra Gaudenzi

mirmilla's insight:

Finally some news from one of the most popular showcases of the year -and a bit of clarity on the chaotic tweets flow for those who are not physically on site

PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE OF INTERACTIVE DOCS - Caspar Sonnen @TFI Interactive

"While most of our attention was turned to the impending doom of Wall Street in 2008,Caspar Sonnen was out creating the IDFA DocLab which would help clear a path for incredible works like Bear 71, Alma and A Journal of Insomnia, which lead the way to a higher profile for the exhibition of interactive documentary. Here Sonnen looks at this expanding genre."

mirmilla's insight:

Language and technology ... history has shown that often these are not synchronized. But when the language gets the technology, the results become History.

At Tribeca Film Festival, ‘Storyscapes’ Brings Transmedia Projects Into Real Life | Mediashift | PBS

At Tribeca Film Festival, ‘Storyscapes’ Brings Transmedia Projects Into Real Life | Mediashift | PBS | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it

"This year the Tribeca Film Festival took digital storytelling directly to the people with an entirely new juried interactive exhibition programmed by the Tribeca Film Institute’s director of Digital Initiatives, Ingrid Kopp. Nestled in a gallery-like space on Varick Street, “Storyscapes” featured five cross-platform/transmedia projects that were both free and open to the public via reservations and walk-ins. A fully interactive, hands-on, immersive experience, one of the projects, “Robots in Residence,” even allowed participants to take the actual robots out into the streets of New York with some surprising results."

mirmilla's insight:

Awesome projects!

Jonathan Harris keynote | IDFA DocLab 2013 | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it

"The first video looking back at IDFA DocLab 2013 is Jonathan Harris’ keynote at the Interactive Reality Conference we organized with De Brakke Grond."

mirmilla's insight:

Gorgeous keynote by Jonathan Harris.

The first part is entirely devoted to his experiences.

In the second part (from 21 '41 ") he faces some of the key concepts of his way of seeing the digital arts.

Many thanks to IDFA.

Between the Lines: Storytelling in the New Landscape - i-Docs

Between the Lines: Storytelling in the New Landscape - i-Docs | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it

"This session (...) looked at the relationship between technology and storytelling, it’s function within the creation of non-linear narratives and the continued role of “old” storytelling telling methods." I-Docs

"Each technological change in filmmaking has influenced the way stories are crafted. Adapting to these new technologies has repeatedly been presented as a revolutionary new way of storytelling. The first films shot with handheld cameras allowed unprecedented access to events, and later, digital cameras made it cheaper to produce films. Now, with opportunities offered by new media, stories can be told in a non-linear fashion through different platforms, or made interactive. Do these new technologies truly revolutionize the way we document the world, or do they merely change the relationship between the maker and the viewer? Do the old methods of storytelling still apply to interactive or non-linear documentaries?

Zeega's WEB DOC MANIFESTO

"There are many ways to express new ideas that can hopefully inspire others to challenge the traditional norms: published works, a landmark invention, a polarizing figure.

Well, we're not sure if this presentation by two of Zeega's founders, Jesse Shapins and James Burns, will go down as a milestone in transmedia, but their Web Documentary Manifesto… let's just say it was one of the more entertaining moments of the day.

Behold the revolution!"

A few thoughts after WebDox 2013 - i-Docs

A few thoughts after WebDox 2013 - i-Docs | Documentary Evolution | Scoop.it
WebDox 2013 has been an amazing conference: held in Leuven, Belgium, and organised by the Media Desk and iDROPS, WebDox has managed to pull together la cr..

excerpt:

"Well… to start from you notice something quite obvious: there is a lot of very mature interactive factual content on the web. We are not experimenting anymore for the sake of checking if interactive narrative can work… that phase is way passed."

Via i-Docs
mirmilla's insight:

Starting from the reflections arising from the Leuven conference, Sandra Gaudenzi analyzes the meaning of the new modes of interaction that affect the emotions rather than the cognitive choices of the user.

Very interesting.
