We live in the digital world. Don’t we? Digital recorders, CDs, DVDs, digital cameras and what not! Despite the fact, we are struggling to deal with huge paper waste. The quest for cutting back on paper usage and saving planet earth is never-ending! Did you know that more than 80% of all our documents come in digital form? Considering the clichéd digitization term, we fail to fit in them! Paper documentation is a real pain not just for the sake of saving paper but also for those who have to manage and maintain them on daily basis. It’s also hard to find out the right document at the right time. Also, perishability of these papers is relatively a difficult task!
As far as I am concerned, a messy house is one of the biggest things that easily flip me off! I worship cleanliness and try to maintain it at my house and office. But it takes space to store all the papers, photos and documents! That’s the reason why I’m trying to explore the option of digitization. In fact I have already digitized all of my photos and am looking for more convenient options to get rid of the messy paperwork and documentation at office. I also got to know that apart from the regular scanners that we see, there are dedicated scanning services and other digitizing tools.
Document scanning and digitization are in fact the real need of the hour. They help you digitize all kinds of data and documents, which is a practical and virtually imperishable way of storage. It saves space, energy and cost for the same! These are some of the benefits of scanning services that come along with intelligent, fast and efficient digitization process. They help you scan, digitize and archive your reports, photos, videos and all sorts of data that you need to store a secured place. These services also digitize your documents on a daily basis, without affecting the routine workflow, which I think is really incredible.
Simply put, digitization takes place through various steps and methods. It helps you create a paperless and greener company. For those like me who consider digitization for personal usage, get to store their memories and personal documents for much longer period without having to worry about them getting lost or damaged! That’s what I believe is the best thing!
Digitizing or digitization is the representation of an object, image, sound, document or a signal (usually an analog signal) by a discrete set of its points or samples. The result is called digitalrepresentation or, more specifically, a digital image, for the object, and digital form, for the signal. Strictly speaking, digitizing means simply capturing an analog signal in digital form. For a document the term means to trace the document image or capture the "corners" where the lines end or change direction.
McQuail identifies the process of digitization having immense significance to the computing ideals[which?] as it "allows information of all kinds in all formats to be carried with the same efficiency and also intermingled" (2000:28)
The term digitization is often used when diverse forms of information, such as text, sound, image or voice, are converted into a single binary code. Digital information exists as one of two digits, either 0 or 1. These are known as bits (a contraction of binary digits) and the sequences of 0s and 1s that constitute information are called bytes.
