Google achieves AI breakthrough by beating 'Go' champion - BBC News | Doctors 2.0 & You | Scoop.it
An artificial intelligence program developed by Google beats Europe's top Go player about a decade earlier than had been expected.
Denise Silber's insight:

It was only a matter of time that machine learning would definitely beat human players of any game...whether it's Jeopardy, Chess, or now Go...It's going to seem laughable that there was a time when humans played human.

People trust #Google for their news more than news media #hcsm #doctors20 | Doctors 2.0 & You | Scoop.it
For the second year in a row, more people trust Google for their news than the news outlets whose articles Google aggregates. Around the world, 63% of people say they trust "search engines" for news and information, according to a survey of 33,000 people across 28 countries by Edelman, a US public relations firm. Only 53% trust "online-only media."...
Denise Silber's insight:

Aah the unending debate about "what is truthful information in healthcare"? For professionals, it's the information they give. For consumers and patients, it's what they find on Google and vet through other people and common sense.

Google's self-drive cars had to be stopped from crashing - BBC News

Google's self-drive cars had to be stopped from crashing - BBC News | Doctors 2.0 & You | Scoop.it
Google drivers had to intervene to stop its self-driving cars from crashing on California's roads 13 times between September 2014 and November 2015.
Denise Silber's insight:

So 1) Google was forced to reveal this data 2) All  self-driving cars (except maybe Tesla) have incidents like this to varying degrees 3) Fans say, but the number is lower...Isn't the issue whether self-learning can work to the point we think it can?...This is a good non-health example of the difference between expectations/announcements and reality.

77 of 2015's most interesting #digitalhealth quotes #doctors20 | Doctors 2.0 & You | Scoop.it
There are a lot of ways to slice up a year's worth of news coverage for a year-in-review, but one of the more fun roundups we do every year is the year in quotes. Below are 77 quotes from our 2015 archive. While they don't all perfectly fit into particular groupings, we've organized them into a few buckets like anti-hype commentary, telemedicine-focused quotes, policy and regulatory discussions, and more.
Denise Silber's insight:
That's a lot of quotes. This content reminds us of the many moving parts that make digital health so difficult to scale. BTW, these are essentially US-based quotes

Curing #Cancer Is not a 'Moonshot' and let's not #uberize healthcare | Doctors 2.0 & You | Scoop.it
A common metaphor misstates the challenge
Denise Silber's insight:

I took advantage of the article noting that since cancer is more than one disease,  it can't be the object of just one moonshot, to remind ourselves that there are a lot of misstatements out there. We can't solve healthcare with one Uber app. We can't disrupt all of healthcare with one tool. And we basically haven't yet scaled anything up, other than searching on Google. Comments?

HMO Kaiser Permanente plans to open a medical school in So. California #doctors20 #hcsm #meded

HMO Kaiser Permanente plans to open a medical school in So. California #doctors20 #hcsm #meded | Doctors 2.0 & You | Scoop.it
Challenging the status quo in medicine and education, healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente said it plans to establish a medical school in Southern California.
The nonprofit health system said Thursday it hasn't selected a site yet for the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. Classes will begin in...
Denise Silber's insight:

It's a different ballgame when there is no fee for service and the institution uses digital health tools to improve care, so Kaiser Permanente is creating its own medschool. Of course, many think that an HMO sacrifices quality to cost. Yet, the clinical results at Kaiser are good. And I haven't seen studies showing there is more error at Kaiser than elsewhere...

Why 2016 Will Be The Year Of Mass Wearables Adoption - maybe #doctors20

Why 2016 Will Be The Year Of Mass Wearables Adoption - maybe #doctors20 | Doctors 2.0 & You | Scoop.it
In the last 12 months, wearables have been a constant topic of conversation. The reaction has been mixed with some early adopters smugly telling anyone who listens that they were right and others—even the biggest fanboys—hedging their bets. According to Forrester Research, one in five U.S. adults either owns or has used a wearable and the market is poised to be one of the big tech earners of 2016.In 2014, only 10% of American adults admitted to having a wearable device. The Apple Watch was still a in production (announced in September 2014) and Fitbit was the poster child for a new wearable generation, but wearables were being hyped as the device that would break out in a big way in 2015.
Via Alex Butler
Denise Silber's insight:
Wearables will continue to grow...They will continue to be left behind as well for all the reasons we know...although the net result will be up. Let's watch and see.

C. CHAMBET-FALQUET's curator insight, December 18, 2015 10:32 AM

This kind of article should be stored and reviewed in 2021.

Reading these lines, It seems that customer engagement is evident. After the fist wave of adoption, the key driver will be : what's my personal benefit compared to the drawbacks of wearing this wearable all day (and even night) long.

It will be the right moment to note that virtual data benefits does not fit the physical convenience drawbacks.

And then we will talk some more about customer engagement !
