Moodle Plugins Directory: Videofile

Moodle Plugins Directory: Videofile | Docencia y TIC | Scoop.it

Videofile is a Moodle 2.5+ resource plugin intended to provide teachers with easy handling of cross-browser compatible videos using Video.js. In most cases it should be enough to add .mp4 video files which will then play in an html5 player on most browsers and in a flash player in older browsers.

Videofile and Video.js also supports WebVTT captions as well as a poster image that displays before the video is started.

Rethinking Education: Self-Directed Learning Fits the Digital Age

Rethinking Education: Self-Directed Learning Fits the Digital Age | Docencia y TIC | Scoop.it

Is the one-size-fits-all, top-down classroom a misfit for the Digital Age?

Standards-based education is ruining the way educators teach and children learn. Education should not be about teaching to the next level in education and vocation and yet, that is exactly what our current school system is designed to do.

Our goal should be to foster a love of learning for learning sake. Learning is not something that we should force onto our children to ensure they go to college and get a good job. True learning is intrinsically motivated and the reward is knowledge.

In the current digital age, does the current standards driven system work any longer?

Amirah Tucker's curator insight, March 10, 8:54 PM

I agree that the school systems should foster a love of learning for learning sake. Learning shouldn't be forced onto our children to ensure they go to college and get a good job, but this is what society and the school system has created for such a long period of time. Today, we are taught that a bachelor's degree is the new high school diploma, and that most employers will look for candidates who have a master's degree or higher. This puts so much pressure on children even at early ages that in the back of their minds, they don't get the chance to love learning or even explore their passions, yet they are forced to choose a career that will help them succeed and pay them well.

Bianca Partyka's curator insight, March 31, 2:39 PM

I also think there is no limit to using technology in the classroom. I think every student learns differently and integrating technology in the classroom can help students find new means of studying that works well for them. I agree that teaching students to test them all the the same level is not the way to go about it. I think that it is "destroying our youth" and causing them to be high anxiety.
