I personally use the MPC 2000 XL which is a self contained music production center. The MPC renaissance is hardware and software combined into one integrated machine which I think is awesome. They offer the best of both worlds with the addition of software to search vast libraries of sound to create beats. Sound libraries have to be purchased but sampling remains the same as the older versions of the MPC (62bit). The renaissance comes with the internal memory already expanded and 8 outputs pre built in. Previous MPC's unless specified come with only a fraction of internal sampling memory and only 2 outputs so the renaissance has some very  positive attributes.
