A Long Time Coming

A Long Time Coming | DIY | Scoop.it
I mean, there's nothing in the world that can reach down deep into your soul and make you feel all warm and fuzzy like taking a sledgehammer to a moldy, twenty-year-old bathroom. I woke up Saturday...
Jason Dixon's insight:

Mad props for doing this all yourself. I know how hard it is to get tiles off the wall. I thought it would be a lot of fun to smash them but boy...a regular chisel does not really cut it if you want to have your kitchen remodeled before the rapture....

Do you do it yourself? Chances are - you're not!

Thoughts about DIY

Jason Dixon's insight:

I was just thinking about how many people refuse to do stuff themselves. They go online, buy stuff....shop around the clock but never get their hands dirty. I guess this is consumerism at it's bes and something we are all trapped in. I love to make gifts for my friends. Sometimes, i do repairs and enjoy being a man of value. Something to think about if you are still looking for ways to contribute to this world ...or at least to your community!

Cool Tools – Sawstop Table Saw

Cool Tools – Sawstop Table Saw | DIY | Scoop.it
All reviews of Cool Tools on this site are written by readers who have actually used the tool and others like it.
Jason Dixon's insight:

It is really a shame that you have to pay so much for a safe and secure woodworking experience. Still, i would pay the price for the new saw stop brakes if this would save a finger of mine. Your body is your temple, you have to treat it right and don't be fooled by macho antics of other woodworkers. So much can happen....

Make Your Own Photo Wall Clock! - A Beautiful Mess

Make Your Own Photo Wall Clock! - A Beautiful Mess | DIY | Scoop.it
I don't know why, but I always had the impression that making a DIY clock would be really tedious and stressful. Boy was I wrong! This cute, customized photo clock is simple to make in about an hour. Really!
Jason Dixon's insight:

I've got quite a bit of friends who own a dog or cat and they would be thrilled if i would make them one of these clocks as a gift. I just fear that they're a little bit too weird or hipsterish for their tastes. So why not go all in and make the eyes glow in the dark :D

Like your fingers? Table Saw “Blade Guards” & Safety

Like your fingers? Table Saw “Blade Guards” & Safety | DIY | Scoop.it
Jason Dixon's insight:

Speaking of table saw safety, here is a very important infographic about this topic. As you can see, accidents do happen and in 10% of all cases, the poor guy operating the table saw loses a finger. This is a pretty horrific statistic. I won't lie to you: Woodworking is NOT safe, especially if you are using powerful tools such as the table saw. But there ARE ways to minimize risks and you would be a fool not to take appropriate measures to protect your fingers. Don't forget, you NEED them for this business ..or hobby!

CNC Table Saw Jig

CNC Table Saw Jig | DIY | Scoop.it
[Woodgears.ca] seems to be a wealth of clever hacks, and this CNC box joint jig is no exception.  Although one has to manually move the jig to make the actual cut, it still gives the user a lot of extra functionality.
Jason Dixon's insight:

In times of 3D printers, more low tech automation is kind of refreshing. Still, i wonder how many people in the target audience are going to actually use it. Other woodworkers i know are kind of old fashioned and are eager to do things the manual way. I can see both sides and this hack might be a viable solution for someone operating a small commercial woodshop, producing pieces with mass appeal. You can't compete against china though....food for thoughts!
