This is an awesome article on the gender diversity topic.  As the VX continues to grow and expand it's reach, it is important to collaborate with men in leading positions to secure more leading positions for women.

The issue isn't male/femaie.  It's leadership.  The more we can exhibit leadership across gender lines the stronger we will all be.

EU quota plan for women on boards put on hold

Every company is different.  There is no one size fits all solution to getting more females on corporate boards.  What we need is a way to identify the issues that keep women for joining more boards and then have each company address those issues in their own way, and in their own time.

Like any big change, the eager will lead and fail.  Marking the way for the laggards to follow.

It is the eager in this sense who are courageous and will be remembered.  No one will remember those companies who were last to join and figure this large issue out.

Report: Women hold only 14.3 percent of executive positions at major companies | Diversity in the Boardroom | Scoop.it
Pam Jeffords's insight:

Same data, but viewed just a bit different.  There are clearly some geographical commonalities that might also correlate more appropriately to industry in that region.  But we can't ignore that there are only 2% point between the women in leadership positions and women on boards.  Does this mean if we solve for one it will solve for the other?

#justleadership: Lockheed Martin's New CEO Is The Right Mix Of Tough And Sensible | Diversity in the Boardroom | Scoop.it

...regardless of what her appealing demographic or biographical characteristics may be, the real reason Marillyn Hewson will soon be Lockheed Martin’s CEO is that she has performed. Running a business is not like politics, where people with particular characteristics are sometimes appointed to high positions for symbolic reasons. In an enterprise like Lockheed Martin, the interests of thousands of shareholders and stakeholders depend on installing leaders who keep the company profitable and competitive. Hewson demonstrated she was a star performer in a dozen senior jobs during her career at Lockheed Martin, which is why the company’s board was willing to entrust the top job to her.

Nearly 80-years ago Coca-Cola elected the first woman, Lettie Pate Evans, to serve on a major public board in the United States, becoming the real thing on progressive thinking in the 1930’s. Refreshing as that was, it would be 46-years later before Coca-Cola elected another woman to their board and only four more since. As disappointing as that lack of progress seems, there are only a handful of companies doing better. According to recent GMI findings, only 8% of companies have three or more women on their board and 36% of US companies still have no women on their board.
