Start Small: Why Tinkerers Get Things Done

Start Small: Why Tinkerers Get Things Done | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it

"... a funny thing often happens when you “just” start setting up and tinkering: you forget about the big, intimidating picture, and start taking small actions that will actually more the project forward. You begin by tweaking and tinkering, and before long, your imagination sparks into life and you’re happily absorbed in the work. You’ve started in earnest without even noticing it.

... Over to you…

Think of your next big creative project – the whole thing, all at once. What happens to your motivation?

Now imagine “just” doing some small insignificant task associated with the project. What difference does that make?" from source: - http://99u.com/

ghbrett's insight:

Notes: This is a good article for many projects, not just "creative projects." In some ways it resembles other project management philosophies, but puts them into a different context: Design. There are many lessons to be learned from Design Processes. Christopher Alexander's books about patterns, Pattern Language, and The Timeless Way of Building. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's work on the notion of Flow - top right in 2x2 for "Challenge Level" and "Skill Level" -- in other words flow is the result of using your best skills to engage your highest challenges. The are just two Design process examples that are practical and metaphorical tools that can enhance the work of Project Managers and their staff. Don't just think about it -- Do it!

5 Ways to Rethink Corporate Knowledge Sharing

5 Ways to Rethink Corporate Knowledge Sharing | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it
The quest to effectively share knowledge within a company is one that still appears elusive.  How do you keep on top of your competitors' developments?  How to do you monitor articles that mention your brand?

Marty Koenig's curator insight, November 7, 2013 11:06 AM

There is so much more corporations can do to share knowledge. Sharing conversations using IM and private social media like Yammer is just the tip of the iceberg. I believe curation will be one catalyst that solves the firehose issue and lets people engage in the topics they are interested in for their career aspirations and adding more value to their employer. Scoop.it will be the leader in this next quest.

The Future of You

The Future of You | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it

"HBR Blog Network: The Future of You by Tomas Chamorro

... Economic and technological changes are reshaping the nature of work. Having a great job does not guarantee your career success; your competence no longer depends on what you know; and being an affluent consumer matters less than becoming a sought-after product. Welcome to a new era of work, where your future depends on being a signal in the noisy universe of human capital. In order to achieve this, you will need to master three things: self-branding, entrepreneurship, and hyperconnectivity."

#future #self-branding #entrepreneurship #hyperconnectivity

ghbrett's insight:

This topic usual  focuses on tools, processes, instructional design, elearning and elearning delivery. However, this article is important for you the teacher, mentor, or instructional designer. It is important as presenting an outcome that you should strive for your students or apprentices, collaborators, and yourselves to attain. Especially in these rapidly challenging and changes times of Desing and Service oriented work ecologies. Brief, but to the point, it is recommended reading.
