As the old saying goes: "A picture is worth a thousand words." This also reminds me of Malcomb Gladwell's book, "Blink." Amazon: http://amzn.to/13AalVQ

Andrea Remmert's curator insight, July 31, 2013 1:41 AM

It's all about images now.

Bruce McDuffee's curator insight, August 20, 2013 2:53 PM

It's important to keep in mind your audience and how the ideal prospect likes to consume content.  Scientists or engineers for example my consume or respect different media than consumers of clothing or electronics.

The top 20 data visualisation tools | Feature | .net magazine | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it

c/o Brian Suda:

"One of the most common questions I get asked is how to get started with data visualisations. Beyond following blogs, you need to practise – and to practise, you need to understand the tools available. In this article, I want to introduce you to 20 different tools for creating visualisations: from simple charts to complex graphs, maps and infographics. Almost everything here is available for free, and some you have probably installed already"

ghbrett's curator insight, March 29, 2013 3:08 PM

This is a great article does indeed go from viz tools that are more simple to much more complex tools and data manipulation. They are all worth having a look see. This is especially true with the increase of people producing InfoGraphics that most always include charts or some sort of data visualization.

Bloom’s Taxonomy: The 21st Century Version ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Bloom’s Taxonomy: The 21st Century Version ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it

"So much have been written about Bloom’s taxonomy; one click in a search engine will flood your page with hundreds of articles all of which revolve around this taxonomy. Only few are those who have tried to customize it to fit in the 21st century educational paradigm. As a fan of Bloom’s pedagogy and being a classroom practitioner, I always look for new ways to improve my learning and teaching, and honestly speaking , if you are a teacher/ educator and still do not understand Bloom’s taxonomy then you are missing out on a great educational resource.

The following article is a summary and a fruit of my long painstaking research in the field of Bloom’s taxonomy. The purpose is to help teachers grow professionally and provide them with a solid informational background on how to better understand and apply Bloom’s taxonomy in classrooms (or for Distance Learning - reviewer comment) in the light of the new technological advances and innovations." from Source: http://www.educatorstechnology.com/

ghbrett's insight:

This blog post is loaded with infographics, charts, links, and other good information to help educators and trainers who are using or interested in Bloom's Taxonomy. This is a very useful resource. Note that the writer has written this as a classroom teacher. However, this reviewer believes that the information applies to Distance Learning as well.

The Conversation Prism has be a go-to resource for Social Media Resource and their use and value for years now. It is impressive that Brian is now crowd sourcing and relying on the users / readers of the diagram to improve it. This is an opportunity for the education, research, training, and open-access community to include their favorite applications that share content and support group work.

The Content Grid v2 [Infographic] | Eloqua Blog

The Content Grid v2 [Infographic] | Eloqua Blog | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it

"The Content Grid v2 picks up where its predecessor left off. Intact is the prescriptive connection between content type and distribution channel. New is the perspective of the buyer, a multi-stage purchase funnel, and a comprehensive collection of KPIs (like they say, “What isn’t measured, isn’t purchased.”). Although v2 contains significantly more information than the original, the new design is infinitely more simple. This achievement is a tribute to the unrivaled design team at JESS3 – and the clarity of client/agency communication that comes only with time and trust." -- from the Source.

NOTE: While this infographic is focused on marketing, it can also be applied to the timeline of developing courseware as well.

The Ultimate Guide To Emerging Technologies | Edudemic

The Ultimate Guide To Emerging Technologies | Edudemic | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it

Published Date: July 20, 2012

URL: http://edudemic.com/2012/07/the-ultimate-guide-to-emerging-technologies/

Title: The Ultimate Guide To Emerging Technologies

Abstract/Quotes:
"Gene therapy? Anti-aging drugs? Neuroinformatics? If this sounds like something out of some Minority Report, you’re in for a surprise. According to a simply amazing visualization by the geniuses at Envisioning Tech, all this and more is coming to your world in the next few decades.

And it all starts with education. If we want each of these incredible (some scary, some not) technologies to actually happen, we need to make sure every student and teacher sees this visualization. Seriously. Show this roadmap to a student contemplating a degree in science or math and they’ll be pretty inspired. Who wouldn’t want to be the person who discovered a way to build a SPACE ELEVATOR?! That’s right. That’s one of the emerging technologies."

NOTE: This is an infographic that projects the emergence of particular technologies up to 2040. Some will be applied in learning situations, others to the workplace, and others are scientific advances. The diagram is a PDF which is easier to read when enlarged.

Here's a look at where we started, how far we've come, and what it tells us about the future of distance learning and online education. We also added a few predictions on what's next, and invite your input as well." - from source: http://www.evolution-of-distance-learning.com/

Infographic: How Social Media Impacts Purchasing Decisions... | Distance Ed Archive | Scoop.it

Many professionals are turning to social media as a place of trust for their purchasing decisions and it’s no different for the IT industry. IT decision makers have a highly-regarded task of ensuring they recommend the best products and services for their organizations.
LinkedIn, Forrester Consulting, and Research Now zeroed in on these professionals to see how they utilize social media, including its effects on their purchasing decisions and how they engage with social.
According to Michael Weir, Head of Category Development for the Technology Industry at LinkedIn, “It’s no surprise that [IT decision makers] are heavy users of social networks. In fact, 85% have used at least one social network for business purposes. What’s surprising is that 73% have engaged with an IT vendor on a social network – underscoring the value of the channel for IT marketers. Even more revealing is the fact that social media is now a critical source of influence across the entire decision making process, not just during the initial research phase.”
