DNA of a 21st Century Educator Simplified!

During your lifetime you have probably experienced inspirational educators, or witnessed inspiring lectures. But, what about you? Are you such an educator? If not, why not? In this talk, I [Zaid Alsagoff] explored some of the ingredients top educators in the 21st century have, and how we can learn from them to reinvent ourselves to reach our true potential as an educator. This talk was given on the 9 February (2013) at Jazan University (Saudi Arabia).

I am taking this a bit further. How do you programme someone to become a potential 21st Century Educator?  Start from the home by educating pre-schoolers. The Piagetian and Montessori idea of presenting children with a variety of educational toys and games suitable for their age and helping them to assimilate new learning is basically simple.  This is just the beginning..........

Five brands using crowdsourcing for product and marketing ideas

Five brands using crowdsourcing for product and marketing ideas | disruptive technolgies | Scoop.it

During a recent discussion about a colleague’s obsession with Lego I was informed of the toymaker’s forays into crowdsourcing new product ideas.

This isn’t a particularly new tactic and I’ve flagged upexamples of crowdsourcing in the past, but it’s a topic that’s worth revisiting as more brands get on board.

So in order to inspire your own campaigns or product development, here are five other brands using crowdsourcing...

Lego

As mentioned in the intro, Lego has a dedicated site for fans and customers to contribute their own product ideas.

Other users can then vote for their favourite idea, state how much they’d pay for it and explain why they like it so much.

If more than 10,000 people support the idea then it goes to the official Lego review board who decide whether or not to put it into production.

The creations currently being debated include a replica of Batman’s Wayne Manor, the boat and shark from Jaws, and a red squirrel.

It’s a brilliant way for Lego to pilfer ideas from its own customers and test them among the wider community.

eCampus News How collaboration is just a modern LMS away - eCampus News

eCampus News How collaboration is just a modern LMS away - eCampus News | disruptive technolgies | Scoop.it

Today’s colleges and universities are quickly turning to alternative pathways to traditional teaching and learning approaches, especially for core courses such as developmental mathematics and algebra—and collaboration enabled through modern Learning Management System (LMS) functionality may be one way to accomplish this rejuvenation.

Leveraging today’s key methods and technologies can create collaborative spaces that enhance student learning and outcomes. A teacher can recapture time spent on traditional lecture and create opportunities for exploration of concepts that lead to increased student engagement and mastery level learning—all while accommodating individual student learning pace variations and asynchronous learning.

The technology to help accomplish this form of pedagogy can be brought together in what is being called the “Collaboratory Approach” or simply “Collaboratory.” The term collaboratory is credited to William Wulf for interacting and sharing via software as early as 1989 (Wulf, 1993).
