I used this article as an opener for a professional learning with about 120 teachers from an urban district within our county. They were stunned when I indicated that most of us, indeed, are members of the "upper tribe". The article came out just days before I was set to lead this hard working group through classroom management, discipline and organization. Our charge, I said, is to help organize and structure the day for kids who come from a culture that is "disorganized and less structured" in ways that make it difficult to be productive and self-disciplined. The gap between the classes just widens in the US. I am happy to be part of the solution.
