From this article: ...we know learners talk during breaks, after class, and in between sessions or modules—how can we be part of those conversations?

Motivating and inspiring learners to actively want to particpate in the convervation is key. Key question: Are you tring to spoon feed your learners or are you trying to genuinely inspire their interest? It should always be the latter.

This infographic looks at Bloom's Taxonomy (the original version) and the cognitive dimensions and also looks at the Depth of Knowledge which focuses on the "cognitive demands (thinking process) of instruction, tasks, and/or assessments."

In the second visual the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy is in the center and Webb's Depth of Knowledge is the outer circle, providing a visual view of how the two may work together. The infographic is also available to download as a pdf on the website.

Common Core tests use Webb's Depth of Knowledge for the four levels, which are designed to increase rigor. This visual may help increase your understanding on how Webb's DOK moves beyond the verbs of Bloom's (which focus on the level of thinking) beyond the "what" to the "how" of thinking (as seen in the levels of DOK).

. Would you say that to me in class? Online disinhibition and the effects on learning

Would you say that to me in class? Online disinhibition and the effects on learning | Diseño Instruccional | Scoop.it

When reading the paper “Would you ever say that to me in class?”, I considered my experiences as an online student—having more than one exchange, though not toxic, that were strong enough to leave a sting—dampening my enthusiasm for engaging and participating with my classmates. I’ve since worked with students and faculty that have experienced similar exchanges. Though not all reach the toxic level, there have been instances where faculty encountered students using strong and offensive language, requiring the removal of offensive posts within discussion forums and other actions.

Lack of civility in online forums within learning communities is manageable in small, closed online learning communities where an instructor is in control of a class of up to thirty, or even forty students. However, as classes expand, with MOOCs, and other types of learning communities growing, in combination with platforms that allow anonymity (such as Coursera) it will become an issue for educators [and their institutions] involved in online learning at some time or another. Peers within my network have shared their experiences as students and instructors within MOOCs that involve politically charged or contentious subject matters where discussion forums are fraught with offensive, even toxic comments and vitriol discussion.  It is for this reason that I write this post; to provoke thought and discussion in order for educators to be proactive and develop appropriate strategies.

Skills you need as an Instructional Designer

Skills you need as an Instructional Designer | Diseño Instruccional | Scoop.it

"Are you tired of seeing heavy content slides? Do teaching methods and strategies appear far from being comprehensible? Well! An Instructional designer is just what you need! A skillful Instructional designer brings to you both technology and learning combined together not only in a digestible format but also at an appetising pace.

An Instructional designer breaks down content that involves any learning material, into something that is easy to comphrehend; he or she also creates the content to be appealing to the target audience."

How can Instructional Design be visual as well as engaging?

How can Instructional Design be visual as well as engaging? | Diseño Instruccional | Scoop.it

"e-Learning has been using this ‘show, don’t tell’ approach for a long time. However, although scenarios and interactions go a long way to involving the learner in the course, I think we need to pay greater attention to the different styles of learning. You’re probably familiar with Fleming’s VAK/VARK model of three ‘types’ of learners: visual, auditory and kinaesthetic. He makes the argument that some learn best through visual aids such as diagrams, others through discussion, and other by physically carrying out tasks. Although I think this is too ‘neat’ a categorisation of learners, as a mixture of learning types is more stimulating than a single format, I find this model useful for considering all the different elements that make up a good course."

4 ways to fight cheating in eLearning

4 ways to fight cheating in eLearning | Diseño Instruccional | Scoop.it
ELearning has opened up many opportunities for today’s youth and working professionals alike.

However, just like any formal learning program, there are unfortunately cases where some learners will try to cheat the system rather than learn the content.

In some cases, this can be seen as relatively innocent (depending on the course content and purpose of the course in general).
