The Future Of Storytelling Is About To Get Wild

The Future Of Storytelling Is About To Get Wild | Discovering stories | Scoop.it

"Many of us go about our lives constantly surrounded by screens, immersed in various "stories": movies, TV shows, books, plot-driven video games, news articles, advertising, and more. Whether we realize it or not, we're creating new behaviors, routines, mindsets, and expectations around what we watch, read or play—which in turn presents new challenges and opportunities for creators and marketers.

In other words, while the fundamentals of good storytelling remain the same, technology is changing how stories can be told. But what does that mean exactly?"

Stories Will Make The World A Better Place
Larry Glover's curator insight, October 12, 2013 7:08 AM

Fascinating piece looking into the changing landscape of how we interact with storys, with the emerging potentials for technicalogical options of actively engaging with the stories we are immersed in daily. We are increasingly invited into a new literacy — a literacy of the power of story in our lives.

How To Get More Fans (And Why That’s A Horrible Idea)

How To Get More Fans (And Why That’s A Horrible Idea) | Discovering stories | Scoop.it

To the folks who are working on growing themselves to be a person who have something of a growing (or huge) platform and are trying to understand how to use social platforms to build something better/deeper/more.

“WHY” are you seeking to get more fans?

And do You really want fans?

Why Community Members are WAY Cooler Than Fans

Communities are made up of multiple levels of peers.

What Does It Take To Nurture These Relationships?

A community-minded relationship requires that you think (always) in three dimensions:  http://bit.ly/KDAEQy ;

# What do I offer that can help others?
# Who do I know that can help this person?
# How can I best work with this person?

To nurture those kinds of relationships requires more than a few considerations and preparations:

➽ You don’t have to follow everyone who follows you

➽ Should you have a "Fan" page, try to let it be YOU populating it and doing the conversing

➽ Be where you can best support the experience

➽ If you can’t manage to have a profile active and communicate back and forth on several social platforms, then don't

➽ “Part of the story” is for participants in a community. Find ways to get people into the action

➽ The more ways you can connect other people together at the peer level, the more it’s about your community and not you-worship

➽ Check yourself frequently. Eat humility every single day

And if you want more? Never fret that argument that it’s quality not quantity. You can have both

Life is about EXPRESSION. We are all in need of expression for our well being. ART is all about the desire for someone to express something that needs to be shared. The viewer (or listener) is the receptor, that will need/want to respond, creating a dialogue. Visual Art is not well prepared for this essential form of relationship. The viewer in my sense needs to become more the doer--the doer to become the viewer... participation from the public was denied for centuries, but is now possible with new tools for communication, like the internet. Can Visual art become more participatory is the question that we should ask today, and consider answering/working on. I do.

Instagram no longer lets users disable video autoplay, a small but important step towards ads

Instagram no longer lets users disable video autoplay, a small but important step towards ads | Discovering stories | Scoop.it

Instagram announced earlier this month that it will begin serving in-feed advertising before the end of the year, and the Facebook-owned photo and video app has made a subtle, but important, change after it removed the option to switch off auto-play for videos.

The option is taken out by a seemingly minor update to the app that covers “performance updates and other improvements,” but lists no specific changes. Following the update, users who did not allow videos to pre-load in their feed are left only with a choice to always allow pre-play or restrict it to when they are on Wi-Fi connections only — presumably because of the data charges/usage that auto-playing videos can incur.

How Do You End A Transmedia Project? | Tribeca Film Institute

How Do You End A Transmedia Project? | Tribeca Film Institute | Discovering stories | Scoop.it

"So you've done it. After year's of developing your transmedia project it's finally up and running. But is the end ever in sight?

In most avenues of the arts there is an end game. Whether it be a self-imposed deadline or (more likely) one given to you, at some point someone wants to see the finished product. However, the thing about transmedia (at least on the web side of it) is it can go on, and on, and on."
