Authorities said at least 100 were injured when a tornado hit the city at 4:56 a.m. today. Between 250 to 300 houses were damaged or destroyed and about 25 businesses were badly hit, authorities said.

Flu Update. Flu Reports

Flu Update: California Reporting Widespread Flu

As we head into mid-February more states are reporting influenza activity. Here's a look at some tips to help keep you from getting the flu:

The biggest defense against the flu is getting a yearly flu shot. High risk groups like the elderly, children under 2 and pregnant women should get the flu shots as soon as possible to maximize protection.

This year's seasonal influenza vaccine virus strains are identical to those contained in the 2010-11 vaccine – the H3N2 virus, influenza B and the H1N1 virus. These are the three flu strains the U.S. government's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe will be predominate during this winter's flu season.

How Facebook and Twitter Help Sound the Official Earthquake Alarm

The U.S. Geological Survey uses Twitter and Facebook to alert those in danger when earthquakes strike around the world.

But they’re not the only ones using social media to sound a digital alarm when disaster strikes. Officials in the U.S. do that too.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), a scientific agency of the U.S. government, is tasked in part with researching natural disasters and getting the word out when they hit. They’re doing much of that information sharing online. Scott Horvatt, Web and Social Media Chief at the USGS, says the organization uses a combination of Facebook and Twitter to spread information about “any significant earthquake event.”
