How Do I Successfully Run SEO Tests On My Website?

How Do I Successfully Run SEO Tests On My Website? | DIRECCION Y LIDERAZGO | Scoop.it

Rand Fishkin is going to talk about running some SEO tests.

So it is the case that many of us in the SEO world, and in the web marketing world overall, love to run tests on our websites. Of course, there's great software, like Unbounce or Optimizely, if you want to run conversion-style tests, tests that kind of determine whether users perform better through conversion Funnel X or Funnel Y, or if Title X or Title Y convinces more people to buy.

But SEO tests are particularly insidiously challenging because there are so many components and variables that can go into a test.

As such, creating a personal/professional learning network comprising kindred others is as easy as participating in the weekly educational chats organized on Twitter (#edchat as an example). These meet-ups enable you  to meet and connect with teachers from all around the globe. 10 Timeless Leadership Lessons to Help Expand Your Influence

#leadership #management #business

donhornsby's curator insight, May 22, 2014 9:14 AM

Leaders must take more time to stop, reflect and assess their own thinking, capabilities and aptitudes.

(From the article): As leaders, you must begin to look beyond the obvious and open your eyes to see the opportunities previous unseen.   Leadership requires you to have circular vision and when you begin to grow complacent, you only see the obvious details before you – rather than those they lie around, beneath and beyond what you seek.  In fact, your mindset becomes stagnate because you are not stretching your perspectives enough to see more than you want to.

When you fall into this trap, it’s time to reshuffle the deck, and map out the internal and external factors that are influencing your thinking. You must begin to identify areas that can be improved –  such as relationships, workshop culture, networking, how you are investing in yourself (or lack thereof), etc.

It’s not experience, but rather opportunity that is the true mother of success.   Be more mindful about how you manage opportunity before it begins to manage you.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, May 22, 2014 10:41 AM

The first lesson is a good place to begin. We become so busy we do not look up and from side-to-side. Leaders need to be present and aware of what is happening and not happening. They need to be aware of who is best served to take the reins in a given situation.

In School, leadership and management should be intertwined. Quite often, I found that the latter was used almost exclusively and leadership did not exist.

10 years of social media by the numbers [infographic]

10 years of social media by the numbers [infographic] | DIRECCION Y LIDERAZGO | Scoop.it

Facebook launched ten years ago in February 2004. Social media hasn't, doesn't and won't stay still. As Myspace rises, Friendster declines. The pattern's repeated itself a few times already, and even Google hasn't quite cracked the magic social network formula, at least not yet. The crown currently belongs to Facebook, a company that's made some big, big startup purchases on the way, although Twitter continues to pack (arguably) more influence. A whole lot has happened in the last decade, but we've tried to squeeze the more interesting parts into something a little more visual.

Handling Complexity in Decision-Making: Avoiding The Bike Rack Effect in Meetings

Handling Complexity in Decision-Making: Avoiding The Bike Rack Effect in Meetings | DIRECCION Y LIDERAZGO | Scoop.it

Why would a $100M power plant zoning approval take 3 minutes and a request to build a $10,000 bike rack for city sidewalks take hours?

It's easy to be swept up in the trivial and fun stuff, starving the big issues for the time and consideration they merit.  Cyril Northcote Parkinson, a British historian and operations researcher, penned this extreme example of decision-making in meetings in his book Parkinson's Law. Paraphrasing the Wikipedia entry, the powerplant is so expensive, the sums of money are hard to frame.

This is a post useful for anyone connected to public sector meetings, or any meeting with complex topics.  I've posted this in change leadership watch for the reasons of asking you, the reader the question, have you ever helped a decision making body avoid the The Abilene Paradox, a classic management film about avoiding mismanaged agreement?

This post also illustrates the power of Parkinson's Law where board members lazily skip over the seemingly impenetrable problem in the meeting, deferring to the team managing the project. There will be implications for years of this city council meeting's decisions, and yet it is decided in three minutes.  It's astounding, assuming we haven't been excluded from a long list of previous meeting discussions.   ~ D

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 24, 2014 11:58 PM

Most humans have no comprehension of $100 million, but understand $10, 000.

Tom Russell's curator insight, March 27, 2014 7:00 AM

I'm sure we can all identify with this scenario. It reminds me of a school football game when everybody is running after the ball regardless of their agreed position on the pitch. Clearly where there is passion there is engagement, so focussing on, and agreeing, clear outcomes is a key starting point if one is going to avoid everyone being kicked in the shins.
