Too Many Dinosaurs

jahn's insight:

Too Many Dinosaurs is a story about a boy who wants a puppy, but gets a Triceratops instead. Children can relate to this upbeat and silly story because many children have experienced a time when they wanted something but a parent said no. This book is exciting and fun and will get the children excited about reading.

How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You?

jahn's insight:

How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You is a silly, rhyming book to which the children will be able to relate. The children will be able to relate to the silly antics of the dinosaurs and that their parents still love them, despite the things the dinosaurs do.

Rhyming books help develop children's phonological awareness. Young children may not get rhyming at first, because it is a developmental skill. However some children will be able to anticpate what word is next based on the previous rhyming word.

Five Enormous Dinosaurs Song

jahn's insight:

Nursery rhymes have many benefits for younger children. They help children learn memorization skills, which helps improve short-term and long-term memory. This particular nursery rhyme includes counting backwards, so the children will be using math skills. Nursery rhymes aslo help children develop their pronuncation and mouth muscles. They also help children follow a sequence of events and expands their imaginations.

Dinosaur Fossils

Make dinosaur fossils using plastic dinosaurs and self hardening dough.

jahn's insight:

When children play with dough they are developing fine motors skills that are necessary for writing. The pushing, pulling and rolling helps strengthen and develop the muscles in their hands. It can also  be a stress reliever because it is tactile.

Also, crafts and creating things encourages children's creativity, and helps build focus.
