DigiWriMo

DigiWriMo | #digiwrimo: Digital Writing Month | Scoop.it

So, apparently, there’s this challenge going around in the Intertubez about writing 50,000 digital words durning the month of November. Now, far be it from me to pass up a challenge, especially one where I get to spout off about pretty much anything I want to talk about for 30 days! I mean, I’ve got a lot to say, about a wide variety of topics. I am, in point of fact, a veritable cornucopia of verbiage regarding topics of varying significance to a broad cross-section of the English-speaking world.

November, this is going to be intense. | munchkin. | #digiwrimo: Digital Writing Month | Scoop.it

I’m attempting NaNoWriMo, DigiWriMo and NaBloPoMo. That’s National Novel Writing Month, Digital Writing Month and National Blog Posting Month. (Although, I don’t know if the ‘National’s apply, given that these are coordinated in the States, and I’m not there.)

It is the first of November. I’m participating in Nanowrimo and DigiWrimo, and one beautiful thing for today is that I have almost memorized the names for both. “I am doing that thing where you write a novel in a month” is how I’ve been referring to it for a few weeks when I tell people about it. But the official name is Nanowrimo! My project for DigiWrimo is to post one beautiful thing a day on this blog. Although this post contains several.

DigiWriMo and the Space of Writing, or, The Surface of the Event

DigiWriMo and the Space of Writing, or, The Surface of the Event | #digiwrimo: Digital Writing Month | Scoop.it

It’s quite literally the 11th hour here, but I want to get a quick plug in for my fellow bloggers and others to join in on DigiWriMo, or Digital Writing Month, the web-based writing initiative that encourages writers to produce 50,000 “digital” words during the month of November, piggybacking off of NaNoWriMo, the national novel writing initiative.

Another personal test – NaNoWriMo! Or should I do DigiWriMo instead? | munchkin.

In 2 hours and 14 minutes, NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) will kick off. I feel like giving it a better go this year than I’ve done in the past. Previously, I’ve given up after about three days because I’m a bit too much of a perfectionist to simply write 50,000 words in only 30 days. I think part of the problem was that I had to take an idea and keep it going throughout the month. My ideas sort of ran out of steam, or I just couldn’t figure out where to take them.

book addiction: DigiWriMo 2012 | #digiwrimo: Digital Writing Month | Scoop.it

Oh, all right, fine. (That's me agreeing, but in something a huff.) I'll have a go at DigiWriMo, because it'd be nice for a change to get beyond the sense of having recently meant to have written something. I'm interested to see whether and how writing online -- "digital writing," he scoffed, "puh-leeeeze" -- can work as a distinct practice rather than just as a different publication venue.

A Place to Start: DigiWriMo #1 | The Arcades

Okay, so here we go. The first blog post of DigiWriMo. I’m feeling rusty – it’s been a while since I’ve blogged, tweeted, or even written regularly. I started a new job this fall (more on that to come) and with its 5-5 teaching load plus the steep learning curve of adapting to the procedures of a new school (new CMS, new course objectives, different types of students etc.), I’ve been slammed. Really slammed. I have over 100 English 1101 students so when they turn in their papers (5 total), I grade 100 papers at a time. I can barely keep my head above water. So something had to give and what gave was my own research and writing, my own engagement with the larger academic world, and my time spent on social media.

DigiWriMo… or a Whole Lot of Letter Stars Arranged into 50,000 Word Constellations | Sad Iron | #digiwrimo: Digital Writing Month | Scoop.it

A lot has happened in relation to my work in digital humanities, numerous initiatives on campus, a little thing called my tenure file, another little thing in the form of an impending book release, and so on. I’m not sure what I’m going to use Digital Writing Month for, but I’ll just consider this post the start of it. So… where to begin?

Ok, so the title of this post may be misleading. I’m not certain I know what I’m doing, other than I’m doing #digiwrimo and #acwrimo this year. This means I’m going to focus on getting a metric shitte-tonne of writing done in the month of November. Follow the links above for the official rules, but I’ll be breaking those. A Penguin, A Duck, A Digital Writing Month | Elizabeth Kate Switaj | #digiwrimo: Digital Writing Month | Scoop.it

Despite my ambivalence about WriMos, I will be participating in Digital Writing Month (DigiWriMo) during November. My participation, however, will not be focused on reaching 50,000 words. My sense that aiming for a high word count can be counterproductive is magnified when it comes to working with digital media. If I find myself working on a highly visual project, I do not want to stop simply because pictures do not add to my ability to reach a target.

DigiWriMo

DigiWriMo | #digiwrimo: Digital Writing Month | Scoop.it

I don’t even know why, but I signed up for DigiWriMo — Digital Writing Month — sponsored by the folks at Hybrid Pedagogy and the Marylhurst English and Digital Humanities program. It’s based on the National Writing Month challenge where the goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. I’m 110% sure I’m not going to accomplish that goal. I’m stating that now for all to see, but I am still participating. I tend to be pretty competitive, so maybe I’ll get close, but that’s not the point of it for me.
