ISE Day 3 – Highlights From The Last Day At The Show

Day 3 ISE After walking an average of 7 miles a day at the ISE show, I can say that I feel as if I only managed to see about half of what was there in detail. Although on the last day I had a good scout around, it was hard to see everything. So, the show planning a fourth day next year, everyone seemed to be think this be valid. Can my feet take a fourth day, I doubt it. Here are a few of my highlights from the last day at the show. We saw the new Icon Flex USB camera and microphone unit designed for the small meeting room and huddle space. This has been long awaited. Able to work with video software such as Google Hangouts and other cloud / PC based video software, this is an ideal solution for these types of spaces. We also got to see LifeSize’s new ICON 400 unit. An all in one camera and codec system, it produced crystal clear video and exceptional audio even under the harsh conditions of ISE. So, for the small to medium video room you’ve got some very good offerings from LifeS

Exciting times ahead…

So, it has been an interesting few weeks, a roller coaster in fact. I have been in over 50 meetings in the last three weeks and have heard quotes like “game changing”, “this will change the meeting landscape”, “I can’t believe it is that easy”. I have seen angry birds played on a 70”interactive screen like it was a smart device and witnessed technology that is in the next 12 months going to have a significant impact on the working environment.  I have seen the light bulb moment when realisation hits that technology can truly aid meetings by removing boundaries, anytime, anyplace, any device and any content. For those that remember the Martini adverts, we have now gone two steps further. All this from what I would class as “Apple” easy to use technology. Playing angry birds on a 70” screen might not sound like much, but it is simply demonstrating that now we can bring any android app into the meeting space, which has significant implications for video conferencin

Some highlights from SAMSUNG technologies event

Samsung as you would expect is evolving and ensuring their position as the UK’s premier screen provider is retained. With over 55% market share (1 of every 2 screens purchased is a Samsung screen) they are developing their range to meet today’s demands. Firstly, no longer will Samsung use the wording large format display, as they now feel that this name no longer represents their screen offering. Ongoing they will be referred to as Samsung SMART signage, which I think is a clever move given the specification and features their screens have. I was fortunate enough to have obtained one of the 100 limited spaces to the first technical partner event which will be an ongoing and regular event. The first event was well received by those attending and a good format and one which I am sure will improve, with the next event having taking on board the feedback sought by Samsung. Here re some highlights: Samsung’s new QM85D is now available which is the world’s first 4K 85” display. Th

When will we learn – there is a better way

Continuing on with the theme I have been blogging about over the last few weeks two things happened to me yesterday. First of all I went to meet clients, pulled in to their car park walked up to their shinny glass building in a lovely setting and as I walked along I went past three room and saw a floor to wall whiteboard fully populated with notes, scribbles and annotations dated the 7th and what looked liked a lot of effort had gone in to in the first. In the second and third much the same but a mixture of whiteboards and flipcharts. I am always amazed when I see this and ask myself why, there was a display screen in each room also which looked to be current models so installed within the last 12 months. Conference phone and one had video. For a level of investment not dissimilar to what would have been spent they could have gone a digital route. With the drive that I am sure you are all seeing for more digital meeting facilities that are simple and effective and give the users the f

Continued theme, the changing landscape of the meeting space

So following on from last weeks blog I am still very intrigued about the changing use of the meeting space, I have over the last month heard such things as, where reducing the number of meeting rooms and moving towards soft seating and touch down areas, adhoc meeting spaces are the way forward, no walled rooms are more creative and where promoting a meet anywhere policy including outdoors facilities. I have seen the key focus in manufacturing shift from traditional AV to more modern flexible systems that will aid these new environments and a ubiquitous approach to meeting space. I have also see cross-pollination from leisure and retail environments and the office space  filter through to both enviroments and can see where comparisons and ideas are being drawn from. Interestingly it would seem that lessons are being learnt around meeting spaces from how children interact and share with one another within certain types of environments. Since I asked for feedback on what your seeing and

Challenge the way you think about catering for in room video conferencing and collaboration

I have been asked more and more in recent weeks similar questions; How can I get away from deploying video in a traditional method? What is a better way of deploying a scalable and cost effective video system that is also simple to run and support? What will provide me with a hassle free life and less worry about what will go wrong? There are many better ways to deploy in room video & audiovisual systems and at Digitavia we are focusing on bringing these to mark. One of the most innovative systems that offers exceptional ease of deployment and is cost efficient at both a deployment level and also from an ongoing support perspective is the Ashton Bentley range. Ashton Bentley has kept momentum on their range of video solutions and has brought out Lync solutions that also have full collaborative capabilities. Having now obtained good traction within the market I am still surprised that more organizations are not looking at the Ashton Bentley offering. All you need from a room based solu

Day One of ISE 2015

ISE 2015. So, day one of the show and visited several of the key manufacturers today. Firstly, Harman AMX, I was very interested to hear that they see their growth over the next two years coming from Enzo, Hydraport and panel sales, based around small – medium room solutions made up of these key elements. All linked via the network and managed by RMS allowing for ease of asset control and system updates. There have been further updates made to Enzo also. Ed Orchard of Harman AMX explains and tells us more in this video. In addition AMX’s RPM has evolved further with a global code standardization feature along with a configuration wizard for easy panel set up. Again this year the Hydraport range was well received and has continued to grow with the options increased. If you re looking for neat cable management for your meeting spaces and an easy method of control then this is something you should look closely at.  Here AMX’s product manger Michael SAADEH tells us more. MultiTaction opens two new offices in the United States

Quick update from the representative of MultiTaction These are the moments when the hard work that you have put in results to something measurable: we are moving to bigger offices ! In my native Finland we d heat up the sauna, roll in the snow and jump into a freezing lake (only to do it again) but since the idea is to warm an office, let s not get overboard. So how about some world class interactive displays and applications, including the first ever digital air hockey (see photo above) that uses real life paddles ?  The air hockey application uses MultiTaction exclusive Enriched Reality technology to track the paddles and soda cans on the displays at 100fps (that is very fast). It is my pleasure to invite You and your colleagues to two Demo Days and Office Warming events: On October 9 in our Los Gatos office in Silicon Valley. RSVP here for the event On October 22-23 in our New York City office at Union Square. RSVP herefor the event Both events begin at 10a and run until 8p each

The Midwich Technology Exposed event

Whilst it was a good event I was disappointed with how much space was given to switches and black boxes, but that s representational of the audio visual industry. It would have been good to have seen more technology based upon today s working trends but here are few things that I thought were interesting and note worthy. My favorite bit of tech on the day was the Air Charge and also Epson interactive offering as well as the LG 94 . Are we finally understanding how technology can work in our favor?

So, the signs are clear, collaboration is growing, the buzz around collaboration continues and new ways of working are being sort. Spaces are evolving, the places we choose to work from are also changing, and we are on the move a lot more as a work force. We are not only now looking for video & collaboration solutions to save on travel, but to enable us to travel more, connecting with those we need to as and when we need to in a better way. The spaces we normally use when on the move such as the trusted coffee shop are also adapting. Only this week did I see a POD work space appear in a motorway services I normally look to use for an hour or so when travelling and need to catch up on mails and calls along with that much need coffee. The range of collaboration solutions is also expanding and maturing I am pleased to say. Next week sees the launch of CleverTouch’s new London demonstration center with their new corporate offering on show. I was impressed with what I saw and here is a s

Round up of the last few weeks

So in the world of meeting technology it’s been an interesting few weeks / months. I find it extremely satisfying challenging peoples views around both technology for the meeting space and how it can be deployed. Yes, sometimes perhaps being a little too outspoken, but if we don’t challenge the way people think and break the traditional AV stance, being one of the few voices evangelising that there is a better way, then I feel we would not be doing our job correctly. A year or so ago I wrote an article saying that we were in one of the only times, certainly in my working life, that the objectives and drives of business was the same as the people in the business. Both want to be more efficient aiding the creation of the elusive work life balance, both want to be having fewer meetings, and certainly more constructive ones, reaching outcomes and conclusions quicker, both want flexibility in the way things are done, enhancing creativity. We see this in the way business is creating dif

When will size matter?

Carrying on from my theme around the new trends where seeing within what is recognised as the key requirement within the office environment, being the small to medium meeting space. It is clear the end users don t believe that in many instances the audio visual facilities within their organisations deliver the user experience or quality they are seeking. This is clear as the BYOD culture is now not just confined to the smart phone / tablet. Having been speaking with many of my clients and having seen a few interesting instances myself over the last week that support this, it would seem that more and more users are prepared to invest a little in technology themselves to get the job done right. One thing I saw that grabbed my attention was a group of people working in a meeting room watching a presentation, nothing new there. However, the audio was being catered for by a £20 blue tooth speaker in the middle of the table. After the meeting I approached the participants as they left the

Interesting Times For Audiovisual

Over the last few days I have again seen further signs that the traditional method of deploying audio visual system is fast become old hat. The move towards more simple, effective and scalable ways of deploying systems seems to becoming accepted as the norm. Is this now the way companies are looking to have audiovisual systems installed? The free standing or floor to wall mounting solutions seem to becoming more and more popular, what initially we had brought to market as a Lynch focused installation method for specific reasons is now being looked at for standard large format display installations within boardroom and meeting space. Next generation will be around curved screens, which we are working on a project on now using Samsung s new screen technology. There are many benefits to using none convention installation methods for screens, increased flexible for upgrade paths and moves / change, improved design options this brings also, static advertising and branding opportunities and
