easA break down of the approach I take for creating awesome visual notes, and a list of tips for getting started with sketchnoting.

Bodil Hernesvold's insight:

I have never been good at drawing, but maybe that's because I haven't tried sketchnoting! This article gives lots of practical ideas and examples. What I haven't found out yet, though, is how to make sketchnoting videos or just making them digital in a successfull way. Readers of my blog: please comment!

Bodil Hernesvold's insight:

A good rescoop: which kinds of videos work best in MOOCS? This is an interesting question and I would like to learn more about it. It is interesting that they have found informal videos to be preferred over studio videos... So much for working on that in our own MOOC! But we have tried to keep things within 6 minutes, and we want to be enthusiastic.

The Seven Needs of Real-Time Curators

I keep hearing people throw around the word "curation" at various conferences, most recently at SXSW. The thing is most of the time when I dig into what they are saying they usually have no clue about what curation really is or how it could be applied to the real-time world. So, over the past…

Great Examples of How Content Curation Tools Can Be Effectively Used In Education

Great Examples of How Content Curation Tools Can Be Effectively Used In Education | Digitallearning | Scoop.it

Why is curation important?

Curation is a life skill and an important part of being digitally literate.  Educators need to know how to curate information so they can teach students how they can curate content for research, their interests and passion. As part of this process educators need to encourage students to curate information using techniques that address their own personal learning needs.

Education researcher to teachers: Use available technology to improve student achievement

Education researcher to teachers: Use available technology to improve student achievement | Digitallearning | Scoop.it
There is good pedagogical ICT use and bad pedagogical ICT use. Only uploading assignments: bad. Practicing the flipped classroom: good. UiB Prof. Rune Krumsvik has all the details in a new study. Read about it in this post.
Bodil Hernesvold's insight:

I am currently reading Krumsvik's Norwegian book "Klasseledelse i den digitale skolen" and this sums up some of the same points made there. Teachers too often use ICT for administration, and not for real learning experiences. Also, Krumsvik has found that using ICT means you need to organise your teaching in new ways to avoid distractions etc. I think this is interesting because we see a struggle between wanting to use ICT to connect, discuss, share and work in better ways, and at the same time there is an overload of temptations that lead us away from learning, too. My own path towards becoming a more competent digital teacher has made me focus a lot more on what I want in my classroom, what I want technology to do for me, and when I don't want it there.

Curation as Digital Literacy Practice

Curation as Digital Literacy Practice | Digitallearning | Scoop.it

Ibrar Bhatt writes: "Digital curation therefore is not just about finding relevant material, although that is a significant part of it, but is also about creating a specific and unique experience by utilising the resulting materials which then become contextualised within a new space. A curator, therefore, whether she is a journalist-by-proxy such as Popova or a student completing an assignment in a classroom, not only collects and interprets, but also creates a new experience with it. In this respect, curation is a process of problem solving, re-assembling,re-creating, and stewardship of other people’s writing."

"Clifford Nass, notes that scholarship has remained firm in the overall assessment: “The research is almost unanimous, which is very rare in social science, and it says that people who chronically multitask show an enormous range of deficits. They’re basically terrible at all sorts of cognitive tasks, including multitasking.” - See more at: http://journalistsresource.org/studies/society/social-media/multitasking-social-media-distraction-what-does-research-say#sthash.I21dv2wV.dpuf";

Katie Muirhead's curator insight, August 20, 11:53 AM

As our lives are becoming increasingly technical, it is not surprising that research into media multitasking is becoming more widespread. This article is particularly authoritative as it has curated relevant university studies. It notes  that "people who chronically multitask show an enormous range of deficits. They're basically terrible at all sorts of cognitive tasks, including multitasking." This comment alone is enough to inspire me to both research this subject matter more, ans strive towards mindfulness myself!!
