These are five great ways to get students to use technology wisely and allow them to create a portfolio for themselves.

1- Weebly

This is a platform similar to Google Sites where you can easily build a classroom website for free. You can also use it to create your portfolio. Use the pages section to host it . You can embed in it images, videos, texts, graphs, infographics ...and many more.

2- Portfolio Gen

Portfoliogen is a FREE online service for teachers to create their own customized portfolio webpage. Registered users receive their own URL web address allowing them to share their credentials with prospective employers, principals, professors and peers.

3- Dropr

Dropr allows you to create and browse beautiful portfolios from music to art, photography to print and connects you to the worlds most creative community.

4- Pathbrite

This is an awesome tool that allows users to create academic portfolios. These portfolios can contain data stored on your computer, materials imported from social media networks...and many more.

5- Google Sites

Google Sites is another great platform for creating and hosting your digital portfolios. Check out this guide to learn more about it.

Do Teachers Need iPad Training? - Edudemic

Do Teachers Need iPad Training? - Edudemic | Digitale Lehrkompetenz | Scoop.it

"We have come to a point in the education technology journey where it seems rather dull to still be asking if the iPad is the right device for the classroom. The answer, in case you’ve missed the last few years of debate is that it is a great option, but this is not universally accepted and never will be. Nonetheless, one of the attributes you’ll hear put forward is that it is easy to use because of the intuitive nature of iOS. This is absolutely true; you can put the iPad into the hands of almost any child and within a short period of time they will have mastered it.

So does it then follow that you can out the iPad into the hands of teachers and expect the same results?

No."

Very true - PD is necessary and needs to keep coming back to 'what is best practice'. It is not about the iPad, it is about the learning that is taking place.
Kim Flintoff's curator insight, August 10, 4:16 PM
The emphasis on iPads is a bit of a distraction here - the issue is related more to the ability of teachers to create engaging learnng opportunities where technology use extends and enhances the students' capacity for self-direction, information literacy, collaboration. culural awareness, etc... be it with an iPad or other ICT, the point is that too many teachers still rely on delivery and control, rather than authentic opportunities for learning.
Gary Harwell's curator insight, August 18, 12:38 PM

Technology in education: if students aren't worried, why are teachers? | Digitale Lehrkompetenz | Scoop.it

I couldn't agree more. As teachers, our role must change to one that enables, guides, personalises and embraces digital technology as a fundamental part of student learning. The most dangerous thing we can do to our students is to keep doing what our teachers and professors did to us:

Love the idea of flipped learning - so much potential.

Alfredo Corell's curator insight, January 20, 9:25 AM

The Flipped Classroom approach is been widely implemented in schools and colleges around the world. It is even considered as one of the greatest achievements of 21st century education.

The concept behind it is to reverse the traditional classroom practices with the aid of technology. Students access the already prepared lecture materials at home, in advance of the class and in the class they engage in structured class activities to work through problems with their teachers’ help, further their knowledge and learn through collaboration with fellow students. For the Flipped model to be successful, teachers before its implementation need to assess whether it is appropriate for their curriculum and students. They need to see if their students will be receptive to the new learning environment and upon implementation and use, teachers should employ effective practices to keep the model functioning successfully.

Sharla Shults's curator insight, January 28, 6:20 PM

Flipped classroom is a classroom in which students view the lecture components of the class at home, then work with the teacher in class on projects and what previously would have been called homework.

What a flipped classroom model does?
• Students watch lectures at home at their own pace, communicating with peers and teaching via online discussions.
• Concept engagement takes place in the classroom with the help of the instructor.

HJJP's curator insight, August 20, 8:16 PM

Single source education has never been very effective, I still remember those days of pure memorization. I was fortunate enough to have relatives that always asked me about what I learned... and they were not interested in me reciting the facts, they were interested in me telling them what I thought, how it impacted my life or those of others.... When I answered them, and they were happy with my answers, I actually got to understand what I had memorized, and certainly got to master the information in a more meaningful way.... It did not always help with getting excellent grades in exams, but I still accurately remember concepts I learned in 3rd grade.... I feel blended learning is the only way of teaching.... this will allow students to understand and implement complex concepts, catapulting them into much high learning than what we experienced 50 years ago.... or 40... or 30... even 20 or in many classrooms, a couple of days ago....

Hope to see many teachers utilizing these sort of blended learning... Current technology makes it so much easier...

Curious learning | Learning with 'e's

Curious learning | Learning with 'e's | Digitale Lehrkompetenz | Scoop.it

The trick is not to rely on new technology. That doesn't necessarily impress younger students. The solution for engaging children and sustaining their curiosity is to engineer situations where they will be challenged, surprised and yes - kept in a constant state of suspense.

Sometimes it is as simple as changing the format of a lesson, or altering the layout of a classroom. Sometimes it is to introduce a new approach or problem where students need to take an alternative role. I often create chaos and uncertainty in my lessons. People are not comfortable with this, and will do anything to resolve it into something meaningful. The answer is always, always keep them guessing - and then send them out confused, if you have to.

"You know the content, you understand pedagogy, and you can navigate the minefield of diplomacy when dealing with parents, students, administrators, literacy coaches, and the local news station when they want to see the iPads glow on the students faces.

You know how to manage and coddle, inspire and organize, assess and deliver content.

But the technology is different. That part you do okay with, but, truth be told, the students are geniuses with technology. Born hackers. And of course they are, you tell yourself.
