Michael Hawkins's insight:

Digital Sound Boards tend to be more expensive, but also can be less intimidating to younger users. Analog Sound Boards have all your functions and switches ready to go in plain site.

Analog Tape vs Digital Recording: Which sounds better? | recording hacks | Digital Vs Analog | Scoop.it
Los Angeles based engineer and producer Adam Kagan compares tape to digital! Does analog really sound better?
Michael Hawkins's insight:

Analog tape recording tends to be more expensive and the costs in the early 90's placed these machines far out of reach for any starting band. Today to get the best of both worlds, both technologies are being used together.

Analog vs Digital - Difference and Comparison | Diffen | Digital Vs Analog | Scoop.it
What's the difference between Analog and Digital? Analog and digital signals are used to transmit information, usually through electric signals.
Michael Hawkins's insight:

It really depends on what you want from your sound. I'm mainly thinking in the context of musical instruments. If you go digital you get a more "focused or tighter sound". On the other hand if you go Analog you have a sound that has more "warmth and character".

I added this article because it's the grounds for all my future research.

Pros and Cons

Digital Pros- Clearer sound on cheaper equipment, more storage of media and tracks, and the sound quality does not degrade over time.

Digital Cons- Sound tends to be over compressed, and there for has "Squashed Sound".

Analog Pros- Much clearer sound as if your amost there, and this format can be a collectable and therefore more valuable.

Analog Cons-Sound degrades over time if not properly maintained, albums and recording tape can be hard to find and very expensive.

Analog vs Digital Sound Quality Test Results
Michael Hawkins's insight:

Vinly has the advantage of a "fuller" sound do to less compression. Digital Audio has the avantage of more storage of data (songs), but at the cost of squashing the sound and limiting the experiance of the user.

I added this article because it gave a real idea of what kinda sound you get from Analog Vs. Digital format.

Does digital sound better than analog? It all depends on the way you record that sound. Take a look at analog vs. digital sound quality and technology.
Michael Hawkins's insight:

The sound that you get comes down to how you record it. Digital has a few advantages in that the sound does'nt degrade over time and the playback is clearer. Analog tends to sound better because none of the music is compressed.

I added this article because it does a great job of discribing analog and digital formats.
