MIXING WARS
Stuck between a digital rock and an analogue hard place? Let Jono Buchanan and Andy Legg help you out of it...
Before the days of FireWire and USB-based DAW recording, the word ‘digital’ equated to ‘expensive’ and we were all charged a premium for digitally controlled signal paths and other digital features. However, over the years the cost of technology has fallen quickly so digital hardware is now more affordable than ever. Nevertheless, is a digital mixer right for your needs and budget? Well, hopefully that’s what the next three pages will help you to decide!

Here again the something analogue or digital. The thing I like about this article is it gives you some products that you can get to accomplish what your looking for. It really digs in deeper to the pros and cons for each one. there again this seems to be a big thing in the audio production world.

This article is me favorite one. I like how it goes into how the sounds waves look in analogue. Also I like how they quoted facts on how the human ear works. The fact that baffles me is how two people can sit in the same room and hear two different things when it comes in analogue vs digital, funny. The other fact I like is how you really can't tell unless you but digital on something analogue like a record or tape and vice verse because each where built to be on a specific thing. analogue was build to be on tape on a record  and digital was build to be on CD or mp3. I love this article because of the facts it brings to the table about both sides but ends in a tie. Here again I say the mixing war is still one and probably will be for along time. I say put them together and we will have a beautiful world of them both.

This article compares digital and analog sound boards. I liked that to decided which media was better the author broke down his comparison into three categories: Price, flexibility and ease of use. It helps show more pros and cons than just sound quality.

Dantron McBride's curator insight, October 9, 2015 12:41 AM

This article is short and simple, it breaks analogue vs digital down into three simple things flexibility, ease of use, and cost. All of these things play a factor in the battle for analogue vs digital but I think its missed one key factor and that technology. Technology is moving a rate so fast that just about everything s not in it's true form. over all the article still show that there is a battle going on analogue vs digital. I think once again that there should be some way to make both of them work together in harmony in there truest form.

This article explains the benefits and drawbacks of both digital and analog mixers. There are examples on why different engineers prefer different types of consoles.

Dantron McBride's curator insight, October 8, 2015 10:44 PM

I like this article is good because its talks about what I think needs to be talked about with recording, mixing, and mastering. It talks about how with analog you will get an original sound. It goes though all the equipment you will need to make that happen can cost a bit much. going though each step need to make it sound good. Next it goes into the sound of the digital mixing. It mention how the sound is good but not original and the equipment is not very pricey. it goes though the same process that the analog goes though but less equipment. The part I like the most is the last part, where there is a balance between  analog and digital. I like how it goes over the equipment you need is both digital and analog there is a balance. The price is good because it goes up and down. The process is the same but much smoother. whoever wrote this article did a very good job with the break down of digital vs analog.

This article compares both analog and digital consoles. It explains the type of signal each console receives from a microphone and how a digital mixer changes an analog signal to a digital signal.

Dantron McBride's curator insight, October 8, 2015 11:22 PM

This article is good because  it saying the analog is cheaper and easy to use. I assuming they are selling digital mixing board because they really got into to details with it. once again an argument about digital vs analog. At the end of the day I think you need both.
