Facebook AI Research automatic image description for visually impaired people

Robin Cartier's insight:

Originally posted by Mark Zuckerberg on Nov 3rd 2015.

"I'm inspired by this video about our artificial intelligence research at Facebook.

Our AI can now look at a photo, figure out what's in it and help explain it to you. This is especially helpful if you're blind or can't see the photo.

We see AI as helping computers better understand the world -- so they can be more helpful to people.

We're still early with this technology, and you can already start to imagine how helpful it will be in the future."

With users's attention turning to messaging apps, brands should understand conversational commerce and chatbots

2016 will be the year of conversational commerce - Chris Messina - Medium

"Conversational commerce (as I see it) largely pertains to utilizing chat, messaging, or other natural language interfaces (i.e. voice) to interact with people, brands, or services and bots that heretofore have had no real place in the bidirectional, asynchronous messaging context. The net result is that you and I will be talking to brands and companies over Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, and elsewhere before year’s end, and will find it normal."

Robin Cartier's insight:
Great article from Chris Messina on a very hot topic for 2016, a must-read !

Machine Learning: Making sense of a messy world

The world is filled with things that most of us are able to understand and react to without much thought… a stop sign partially covered by snow is still a stop sign… a chair that’s five times bigger than usual, is still a place to sit. But for computers, the world is often messy and complicated. Google engineers and researchers discuss how machine learning is beginning to make computers, and many of the things we use them for (maps, search, recommending videos, translations), better.
