My friend Sean and I had a great time building some simple programs that we ran on the two computers in our teacher’s room. Today, students can learn programming on their iPads. Here are three free apps that students can use to learn programming on their iPads."

iPads in Primary Education: Independent Learning using iPods in Maths (iPodagogy)

iPads in Primary Education: Independent Learning using iPods in Maths (iPodagogy) | Digital Tools for Student Learning | Scoop.it

"Since the beginning of September we have been trying to maximise the use of 1:1 iPods in year 6 in all areas of curriculum. The potential of enhancing teaching and learning in mathematics through the use of this technology has been particularly interesting. We have been developing the creative use of a range of Apps to support progress, engage children and add relevance to maths teaching with positive outcomes (10 Practical ways to use Apps in Maths) We have also explored a wide range of maths specific Apps which have helped pupils mainly in the areas of number fact and tables recall. (Apps for Maths) Recently we have extended the use of the iPods to allow them to support independent learning, and play a central role in effective formative assessment."

iPads in Primary Education: Enhancing Topic Work (World War 2) Across the Curriculum Using iPods & iPads

iPads in Primary Education: Enhancing Topic Work (World War 2) Across the Curriculum Using iPods & iPads | Digital Tools for Student Learning | Scoop.it

"In this post I've selected some examples of work that the pupils have produced in the World War 2 topic using their iPods and iPads to demonstrate and enhance their learning. It also includes the apps the pupils used and a brief description of the lesson. Any digital work the pupils created on their iPods was saved to their individual blog space http://6aclasswall.posterous.com. This meant any content the children had created on their iPods could be deleted once it had been posted to the blog, saving limited space on 8GB iPods. The pupils used a QR code in their World War 2 scrap books to link to their digital work on their blog space if this was appropriate."

Can 1st Graders Make An iMovie in 20 Minutes?....YES!

Can 1st Graders Make An iMovie in 20 Minutes?....YES! | Digital Tools for Student Learning | Scoop.it

"My plan was this...they had to pick three pictures already in their photo library from throughout the year.  When the imported the pics into iMovie, I wanted them to narrate over the top to tell a story.  This can be tricky, but there are a few tricks to make it easier.  Tell the kids to narrate as long as they want to because the pictures are simple to edit and make longer or shorter in the iMovie.  I also like them to narrate one slide at a time, to keep their thoughts focused on one picture.  The most difficult thing for first graders to understand is to accept and review their narration.  If they don't accept it, it will get lost in cyberlimbo, so make sure you go over that with the class."

Achieving the Early Learning Goals for Maths using 8 Great iPad Apps

Achieving the Early Learning Goals for Maths using 8 Great iPad Apps | Digital Tools for Student Learning | Scoop.it

"For this post, I will focus on early learning goals for maths and numbers in the UK Primary National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 and the Early Years Foundation Stage for age 5 and under. If you read the framework documentation, you will find the early learning goals for maths and numbers are:

"Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.”

If I may add one goal to the ones I already stated, it’s the ability to write numbers and speak the words fluently."

If you would like to see the agenda for the day, you can do so by clicking here. Because our classroom of teachers really wanted to delve deeply into the material at hand, we could only touch on a few of the topics we had planned to tackle."

Documenting Learning in Mathematics (or any other subject) using Padlet

Documenting Learning in Mathematics (or any other subject) using Padlet | Digital Tools for Student Learning | Scoop.it

I see many benefits in this process of documenting the learning and not just in Mathematics.

In this new era of collaborative teaching, it’s a great way of recording a lesson for other members of the team to view.As a Maths leader/mentor, it’s a useful way of modelling a lesson for teams to discuss. For students, it gives them access to previous learning that they can revisit at different times of the year to review/revise and support their learningFor assessment purposes, it can provide a record of the different stages of learning that took place during a lesson or series of lessons.the use of Padlet itself opens up personalised access for students to work at their own pace ( not evident in this lesson as it was more of a guided lesson rather than an independent task)

iPads in Primary Education: Strip Designer: 10 easy ways to get started with iPads/iPods in the primary classroom

iPads in Primary Education: Strip Designer: 10 easy ways to get started with iPads/iPods in the primary classroom | Digital Tools for Student Learning | Scoop.it

"Context: Many schools are starting their own iPad journey and often teachers ask for ideas about which apps to use and how to use them. As a good starting point, Strip Designer is easy to use, powerful and versatile. There are countless ways in which it could be used to promote learning and to add quality and variety to presentation of work. Once teachers have started using it, the practical ideas keep on coming. There is nothing here that couldn’t be achieved with pencil and paper but in terms of speed of productivity, ability to edit content and quality of presentation this app can really enhance pupil output in a lesson. Here are some examples of things we have tried."

11 Must Have iPad Apps for Teachers and Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

11 Must Have iPad Apps for Teachers and Students ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Digital Tools for Student Learning | Scoop.it

"Today while I was lounging in Victoria Park, I took my iPad and started thumbing around through the apps I have. I was really surprised to find out that I have many apps installed but only some are being used on a regular basis. So it dawned on me to compile a list of some "must have" apps  that teachers should have access to. All of these apps are great for organizational tasks such as :  task management, bookmarking, note-taking...and media storage.
