Coach Jeffery's curator insight, January 9, 2013 9:38 AM

ReadWriteThink provides templates for a variety of writing projects that incorporate a cube. The Bio Cube may be used after students have read, or before they write, a biography (or autobiography). The Mystery Cube will help them recall a mystery story after they have read it, or to pre-write one on their own. There is also a story Cube that will help them map out "key elements of a story" and there is Create-Your-Own Cube...you select the questions to a topic and then respons.

Free Technology for Teachers: 125 Years of Exploration in Pictures | Digital tools for education | Scoop.it
Alison Hewett's insight:

The National Geographic Society turns 125 years old later this month. One of the things they've done to mark the occasion is publish galleries of landmark images of exploration over the last 125 years. My favorite of the galleries is Flashback Firsts which, as the name implies, features "firsts" of exploration that were published in the National Geographic magazine. Flashback Firsts includes images of Manchu Pichu, Mount Everest, and under sea explorations. Set your browser to full screen and click the information link within each image for the best viewing experience. Source Richard Byrne freetech4teachers.com

The Story Kitchen: creative writing for kids

Alison Hewett's insight:

Interesting -STOTY GENERATOR tool.... What's cooking? Wonderful ideas and stories are bubbling deep in your imagination. To get them out, I've made this creative writing help for kids, parents and teachers. Pick one hero, one place, and one villain in the chart below..

Before you see the story... think for a second. What would you do with the choices you've made? How would you combine them in a story?

Now click on the button and see how I've put them together. But I'm only going to start the story. You get to finish it. And when you do, email me! I'd love to read your ending!

If you want to just skip the fun of choosing the ingredients, here is a list of the stories in the Story Kitchen. And, teachers, here is a page that explains how to use this story generator.

5 Reasons why the iPad will stay the king of the classroom « cagelessthinking.com | Digital tools for education | Scoop.it

The biggest and most oft-heard criticism of the iPad usually revolves around it not behaving like a desktop PC or laptop. The people making this complaint are simply missing the point. Apple aren’t trying to make a laptop replacement, why would they? They make a couple of extremely good ones! The iPad is a new kind of device that asks you to think and work differently.
