If it is tech related, some people think it’s my realm and don’t appear to have the personal motivation to gain understanding.  This the professional goal I have set for myself, to help bring people the table to gain from the learning that is out there on a daily basis.

We are living in revolutionary times. It is urgent that we think of education, children and teaching differently from the past. The classroom needs to be a place of innovation where students are able to connect with others, feel empowered and curious and have a say in their learning. Technology provides us with tools to expand our minds and extend our reach (Sir Ken Robinson, 2014).

5 presentation tools that enable better collaboration | Digital Technology in Education | Scoop.it

With group presentations, it is always difficult to find a way to collaborate effectively on a presentation. Sending a PowerPoint over e-mail repeatedly can be a hassle, because no one will have the same draft at the same time. With a collaborative presentation, it’s important to edit in real-time in a space that works for everyone. To help with that, we have found...

Teacher knowledge for 21st century learning

Teacher knowledge for 21st century learning | Digital Technology in Education | Scoop.it

This article offers a critical review of the literature on 21st century knowledge frameworks, with a particular focus on what this means for teachers and teacher educators.

The authors accomplish this by identifying common themes and knowledge domains in 15 reports, books, and articles that describe the kinds of knowledge that researchers state are integral and important for success in the 21st century.

The authors argue that seemingly disparate frameworks converge on three types of knowledge, as necessary for the 21st century: foundational, meta, and humanistic. Although 21st century frameworks are thought to advocate new types of knowledge, little has actually changed in the new century with respect to the overall goals of education.

Despite this sense of continuity, significant changes related to how technologies change all three types of knowledge need to be conveyed.

The article ends with specific conclusions and recommendations for teacher education.

3 Ways to Encourage Higher Order Thinking with Technology

Beth Dichter's curator insight, July 30, 2013 2:56 PM

We know students love to use technology, so how about using technology as a tool to encourage higher order thinking? This post explores three ways you might choose to do this.

* Develop a digital tool kit. Go out and find some great tools that will help students use higher order thinking skills. Given them a test drive first, and then create a digital playlist and some digital guides to help students learn how to use them.

* Design flexible learning experiences. "Grab your toolkit, embrace Essential Questions, then build lessons around them." And for information on Essential Questions you may want to check out Chapter 1 of the book "Essential Questions: Opening Doors to Student Understanding from ASCD at http://www.ascd.org/publications/books/109004/chapters/What-Makes-a-Question-Essential¢.aspx.

* Get out of the way and let students create.
