Meet the Makers: Can a DIY movement revolutionize how we learn? - The Digital Shift | Digital Sandbox | Scoop.it
GwynethJones's insight:

Great article! Even if it's a bit of Shameless self promotion ;-) Makerspaces don't have to be only 3D Printers & Green Screens!

What was left out of the interview was you can create a Makerspaces school!

• Have kids create, film, & produce a Cooking Show in the FACS room!

• Have kids design a personal LOGO then create cool pottery, fire it in the Art Room & paint it with their brand.

• My kids have also designed & created pencil holders & bookends around their favourite Game APP in the TechEd room like Angry Birds! http://flic.kr/p/aDf9ue ; - then they can write a script and "sell" them on our TV show like an InfoMercial!

Thanks for this scoop! The TeachThought site has helpful links related to students bringing their own devices (BYOD). I think it's important to find ways to resolve problems around BYOD because having a device you are comfortable using adds value.

Great Tutorial on How to Create your Own eBook on iPad ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Great Tutorial on How to Create your Own eBook on iPad ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Digital Sandbox | Scoop.it

"Creating an eBook online is no rocket science and anyone with the rudimentary knowledge of how to use internet can get his/her eBook up and viral in a couple of minutes provided the content part of it is already written in a word document. I find the typing and editing part the most  difficult stage in this process;  however, if you just want to set up a short ebook for your students then that would not take you much time.

Just a couple of weeks ago I shared here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning a list of great apps  to use to create eBooks on iPad and I received several emails following that post and some of you asked for tutorials on this topic. Here is one of my favorite tutorials on how to create an eBook on iPad that I always recommend to my fellow teachers. Check it out below and share with us what you think of it. Enjoy"

A great way for young authors to share their work

Stefanie Stewart Crosser's curator insight, September 20, 2014 5:08 PM

There are various ways to use technology in the classroom, but how long does it take to prepare lessons through technology? They say "Don't take your work home" because it can seriously affect one's family and home-life, but is there enough time in the day to prepare effective lessons without taking your job home? Teachers are not paid enough to create their own lesson plans using technology - let along to teach, with all of the constant changing standards!

You need to have an understanding of user experience and narrative.

Luca Brigada's curator insight, March 18, 2013 6:18 PM

Mc Million about storytelling: "As an interactive storyteller, you need to have an understanding of user experience, design and coding, but most importantly you have to understand what makes a strong narrative. [...] So while it’s helpful to understand the technology, it’s essential to understand how stories are consumed, generated, shared, repurposed and controlled by online audiences. I think it’s important for an interactive storyteller to give up a level of control and work with your team to discuss the number of ways a story should and could be told. Some stories are best told through video, while others may be more powerful through audio and photos [...]"

Time for next-generation interest-based content curation? RIP Google Reader | Digital Sandbox | Scoop.it
