This launch is great! For those who hear a song on the radio and want just that song. You can pay a lesser value for a subscription, than you would pay for an entire album. This too could mean less is more when it comes to music and album sales. You are paying less than you would for an entire album but have more in your playlist.

Christopher Nicodemus Dean's curator insight, December 11, 2016 2:07 AM

I feel like Indie Labels are the new wave of the industry. They have full control of how their organization is ran and also they earn back from everything they put out without anyone else cutting into their hard work. Major label will still survive in the industry but I also feel Indie Label will have their shine for many years to come very soon.

joseph martino's curator insight, December 11, 2016 2:17 AM

As with most other businesses, the traditional role of record label has become a re-defined thing from the past. With high risk investment, labels spend up to 15% on artist development as competition gets fiercer. In response to these challenges, artists are becoming more entrepreneurial, exerting more control on their individual brands. The rapid growth of social media sites has provided a viable platform where all aspects of exposure are used to connect with the consumer. A closer relationship is built with artist and customer with several attractive features including access to external links and flexible price structures. With all of this consumer friendly treatment, it's a wonder how anybody can stay in the business. Fortunately, artists partner up with additional labels as well. Plus, the inter-dependence with the tech industry provides a direct connection with an infinite audience.
