Funding for a new specialized high school and rezoning property off New Leicester Highway are among the issues the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners will take up Tuesday.
Commissioners will consider a request by the county school board that it appropriate $5.5 million in state lottery and sales tax proceeds for renovations at the county schools’ former Career Technical Education Center.
The work would create a school specializing in science, technology, engineering and mathematics that would share space with the county’s administrative offices at 175 Bingham Road in northwest Asheville.
The school board approved the plan Feb. 7 on a 6-1 vote. It calls for the school to open in fall 2014.
