I'm a big fan of email marketing and there's a big difference between being a spammer and marketing with email. One of the biggest differences is building a quality list with permission. I get asked all the time how can businesses build lists and my answer is always, by inviting people to join your list using all sorts of tactics. That isn't a popular response and lots of times it's followed with "Where can I just buy a list?" You can, but you shouldn't. I'm no fan of math, but I do enjoy trends and that's the real power of analytics. Watching trends and reactions are more important than whether a stat changed 1%. Unless that 1% was a jump that has been steadily climbing from the prior months, it's just a number.

Paying $50 for a theme is nothing when you know it is not corrupted or vulnerable. Plug-ins should be deleted if you're no longer using them and look for recent updates before installing. If something hasn't been updated in months, it could just pose a performance issue ... or worse. Ask around and see what other people use. My favorite themes and plug-ins come from the Studiopress community. It is well supported and there are lots of smart people who have your back.
