33 Thought-Provoking Quotes to Wake Up Your Inner Innovator

33 Thought-Provoking Quotes to Wake Up Your Inner Innovator | Digital Marketing | Scoop.it

When we grow up we are taught that innovation is something special. To be an entrepreneur, you somehow have to be different. Being an entrepreneur and an innovator, they say, requires a particular approach, personality, training, the list goes on. I think this is wrong! It is my sincere belief that we are all entrepreneurs. Even those who work for large organizations can impact true change, they are intrapreneurs. All it takes is passion, curiosity, and strong desire to make even a small impact on the world.

It’s Better to Start a Business While You’re Employed Elsewhere: Study

It’s Better to Start a Business While You’re Employed Elsewhere: Study | Digital Marketing | Scoop.it
Professors Joseph Raffiee and Jie Feng at the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that “hybrid” entrepreneurs – people who maintain their regular gig and while launching their new ventures in stages – are a third less likely to fail than those who jump in sans safety net.

Additionally, they maintain that hybrid business owners who transition to full-time self-employment “have much higher rates of survival relative” to those who quit their job and then directly start a new company. There is always a factor of risk when launching a new venture, but the study purports that you don’t need to thrive on risk in order to be effective.

How to Use Data to Make Smarter Marketing Decisions | Hubspot

How to Use Data to Make Smarter Marketing Decisions | Hubspot | Digital Marketing | Scoop.it

Take a moment to step back and contemplate all of the things we, as marketers, are responsible for. Content creation, SEO, email marketing, PPC, social media, lead generation, analytics ... the list is never-ending. Where do we find the time, budget, and resources to do it all?

The answer is: We don't necessarily have to.

Doing stuff just to say you're doing it isn't a good enough reason. Instead, you should figure out which parts of your marketing plan are working, and then focus on and improve those parts -- and then you can start to tackle those other marketing channels.

Sometimes it's a matter of digging into your data, pinpointing what's working and what isn't, and then cutting out the things that aren't working as well. Let's walk through a few different ways data can help you do that....

The moves by companies and governments to put large amounts of information into the public domain have made large volumes of data accessible to everyone.

Any company, from big blue chip corporations to the tiniest start-up can now leverage more data than ever before. Many of my clients ask me for the top data sources they could use in their big data endeavor and here’s my rundown of some of the best free big data sources available today....

The Psychology of Writing and the Cognitive Science of the Perfect Daily Routine

The Psychology of Writing and the Cognitive Science of the Perfect Daily Routine | Digital Marketing | Scoop.it

...In the altogether illuminating 1994 volume The Psychology of Writing (public library), cognitive psychologist Roland T. Kellogg explores how work schedules, behavioral rituals, and writing environments affect the amount of time invested in trying to write and the degree to which that time is spent in a state of boredom, anxiety, or creative flow.

Kellogg writes:

"[There is] evidence that environments, schedules, and rituals restructure the writing process and amplify performance… The principles of memory retrieval suggest that certain practices should amplify performance. These practices encourage a state of flow rather than one of anxiety or boredom. Like strategies, these other aspects of a writer’s method may alleviate the difficulty of attentional overload. The room, time of day, or ritual selected for working may enable or even induce intense concentration or a favorable motivational or emotional state. Moreover, in accordance with encoding specificity, each of these aspects of method may trigger retrieval of ideas, facts, plans, and other relevant knowledge associated with the place, time, or frame of mind selected by the writer for work."...

18 Apps That Will Inspire Creativity In Your Everyday Life - Huffington Post | Digital Marketing | Scoop.it
Mobile devices like iPads and Androids have transformed the way we experience boredom. No longer is a wayward commuter forced to play Snake or Tetris, occupying themselves in a hardly satisfying, and utterly pixelated virtual reality. The tablet or smart phone-wielding travelers can now immerse themselves in an entire library of art and culture-related distractions, finding solace in everything from a Vincent van Gogh game to a digital version of the Louvre.

Just this week, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a 140-year-old cultural stalwart of New York City, went the way of the future and introduced an iPhone app. Described as "exceedingly simple and modest" by Forbes, the move to make art more accessible is something we can't help but love. So, in the spirit of the Met's 21st century attitude, we've put together a list of mobile museums and art-honoring programs that will spark creativity in your everyday life.
