USE, UNDERSTAND & CREATE: A Digital Literacy Framework for Canadian Schools - Overview | MediaSmarts | Digital Literacy - Digital Competence | Scoop.it
Young Canadians need to be able to make good choices about privacy, ethics, safety and verifying information when they’re using digital media, and they need to be prepared to be active and engaged digital citizens. Based on our research on digital literacy education in Canada, USE, UNDERSTAND & CREATE provides a road map for teaching these skills in Canadian schools.
Gareth Morgan's insight:

Looks like this could very much complement the Common Sense Media digital literacy/citizenship resources. Broken down into:

Ethics and Empathy

Privacy and Security

Community Engagement

Gareth Morgan's insight:

An interesting article, and my eye was particularly drawn to this section:

"The results are focusing on the generation of adolescents who has grown up in the presence of Internet and are comfortable with technology. It is vital for educators and adults to help children sharpen then digital literacy skills, said Wartella.

“Half the teens who use search engines to look for health information say they usually just click on the first site that comes up. We need to focus on improving their digital literacy skills so that they can sort through the abundance of information they come across online.” she said. She adds she would like it if health websites offered a health section specifically for adolescents."
