Seven Ways to Break the Consumer Mindset in Schools | John Spencer | Digital literacy and blended learning | Scoop.it
When I look at the data, I notice a trend. Students have never used their devices creatively. They have the power to capture and tell a story but they don't. They have the power to connect to an authentic audience, but it's not happening. They have the potential to build models and design products and turn things from wild ideas to tangible realities. However, it's not happening.

50 Apps for the Foreign Language Classroom - teachingwithipad.org | Digital literacy and blended learning | Scoop.it

"I enjoy discussing iPad and other edtech resources with my colleague and friend Sylvia Duckworth almost every week through Twitter. Sylvia is a leader in the French teaching community in Canada, and has created an enormous amount of resources for language teachers to use. I asked her if she wanted to collaborate on this post, and she quickly agreed to do so. Below is a list of iPad apps that we both use in our language classrooms. The ones marked with an * are the essential, must-have ones. We have divided the list into two categories: Content consumption apps and content creation apps."

Three Awesome Educational Games Hiding in Plain Sight

Three Awesome Educational Games Hiding in Plain Sight | Digital literacy and blended learning | Scoop.it
My intention here isn’t to argue that games have learning value. Educators don’t need convincing of this. Rather, what these three ostensibly ‘non-educational’ games show us is that there are many more options out there than we realize; we just need to shift out perspectives on what learning looks like. Our students already have, we just need to catch up.

Here’s my starter for 10. Each of these is a whole topic in itself, and I’ve raised more questions than answers, so let’s consider this just a starting point! I was going to title this post “Why ebooks are a minefield”, but thought that sounded unnecessarily negative when discussing an area so rich with possibilities and opportunities. Read on to see if you think I was right to change the title.
