Easy tool for recording audio with slides. I don't like that you can flip ahead thus getting the audio off sync with the slides, but it looks like you can control that.

Storynory - Free Audio Stories for Kids | Digital literacy and blended learning | Scoop.it

Audio books have become increasingly popular in recent years (see Google Tends), but some people believe that listening to a good book is not as legitimate as reading one. In fact many authors, such as Dickens, wrote their books to be read out aloud. You can make the case that listening to Dickens’ books is more authentic than reading them.

Teachers colleges struggle to blend technology into teacher training

Teachers colleges struggle to blend technology into teacher training | Digital literacy and blended learning | Scoop.it
But while would-be teachers are coming in comfortable with technology, this doesn’t translate into knowing how to use it to engage young minds or to tailor a lesson to meet the learning needs and styles of individual students. Although teacher candidates know how to operate the devices, they need to be taught how to use them to help kids learn.

Sugata Mitra: schools should scrap the 3Rs

Sugata Mitra: schools should scrap the 3Rs | Digital literacy and blended learning | Scoop.it

“Reading, writing and arithmetic should be deemphasised and replaced with comprehending, communicating and computing. That’s the world we live in today,” Prof Mitra said at the education technology conference Bett in east London today.

Jesus Sandoval's curator insight, February 6, 5:26 AM

For many reasons I agree with what Sugata Mitra says about replacing certain education topics such as reading, writing and arithmetic with other beneficial ones such as comprehending, communicating and computing. In today’s modernized society skills such as communication and understanding technology off the palm of one’s hand is very beneficial when looking for a well paid job. Once a student enters high school these skills (communicating and computing) should be strengthened. It will only benefit the students down the road. What is the point of teaching students how to write with correct punctuation and proper grammar when they can simply turn on  grammar check when typing on a computer? The point is that machines and devices have been developed to do one’s thinking for them. The best option is to teach students how to work with these devices and machines (computing) and not much writing and reading anymore. The world is developing way too quickly to be focused on perfecting one’s writing and reading skills.
