New Wonderful Twitter Guide for Teachers and Educators ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

New Wonderful Twitter Guide for Teachers and Educators ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Digital Learning and Professional Development | Scoop.it

"The power of Twitter resides in the kind of connections and networks it allows you to make.Twitter is by far the social networking platform that teachers and educators populate the most. As such, creating a personal/professional learning network comprising kindred others is as easy as participating in the weekly educational chats organized on Twitter (#edchat as an example). These meet-ups enable you  to meet and connect with teachers from all around the globe. They also introduce you to a treasure trove of information, resources, links, tips, and learning experiences that can be leveraged for your own purposes."

Interesting video on MOOCs. It's beginning to look like anything that is online education is now being called a MOOC. It's like an echo from 20 years ago when e-learning started taking off. Seems like a lot of people are really missing the point.

Ruth Vilmi's curator insight, May 12, 2013 3:45 AM

This is not new - I taught the International Writing Exchange (IWE) from 1993, but technology allows much more nowadays. Go for it and learn whatever your heart desires!  Go for challenging courses though, not a book on the Web!!

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, February 22, 2013 12:06 AM

In today’s 21st century classrooms, digital tools should coexist alongside more traditional tools. Online tools, compared to their more traditional counterparts, provide a broader array of information about words and word meanings. In addition, some tools allow teachers to easily customize words so that students can practice, review, and play games with content or unit-specific words. Digital tools allows students to:

Online Teacher Development Works Best - 15 Reasons Why

Online Teacher Development Works Best - 15 Reasons Why | Digital Learning and Professional Development | Scoop.it

I've started this article with quite a bold statement, but it's a conclusion that I have been coming too over the course of quite a few years now. I should really put this into context though, as most of the teacher training I do deals with pedagogical training for the use of technology and is most often delivered during intensive face to face sessions, usually with groups of teachers working in a computer lab. Though, having said that, I do still believe that many of the reasons I have listed below do also apply to other kinds of more 'mainstream' teacher development too, especially intensive courses.

Personalize Learning: Toolkit

Personalize Learning: Toolkit | Digital Learning and Professional Development | Scoop.it

How do you personalize learning? First you need to know what personalized learning is. Here is a new site that provides resources, research, models, examples, and stories. This page provides a toolkit that can help your organization begin personalizing learning to meet the needs of all learners.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) provides the framework in personalizing learning for all learners. UDL also guides the design of the Personal Learner Profile[TM]. It provides the UDL lens to select the appropriate tools for the Personal Learning Backpack[TM] that helps them access information, engage content, and express what they know. UDL guides how Personalized Learning meets the Common Core.

Check out the chart that compares Personalization, Differentiation, and Indivdiualization. You can download the chart and a report that explains the details of the chart.  The Three Stages of Personalized Learning Environments can help you determine where you are in personalizing learning. These are free for you to download.

Developing Your Digital Study Skills

Developing Your Digital Study Skills | Digital Learning and Professional Development | Scoop.it

Making the move from our safe and trusted traditional literacy habits to newer digital skills can be quite a challenge, but as teachers I think we are really unlikely to be able to use technology and help our students use technology really effectively unless we are prepared to face this challenge. Technology needs to be more than part of the way we teach but it also has to be part of the way we ourselves continue to learn and part of our everyday professional practice.

A Collaborative Guide to Best Digital Learning Practices for K-12 | DMLcentral

A Collaborative Guide to Best Digital Learning Practices for K-12 | DMLcentral | Digital Learning and Professional Development | Scoop.it

To teach responsibly in a digital age, we have to respect what our tools can do to help us learn together -- and what tools alone cannot do. We need to be prepared to adapt them to our specific needs as teachers and learners. We need tools that are as open as possible, that are designed to encourage students to participate and not simply consume. And we need to support teachers who are also learning how to use new tools for the most innovative, imaginative, interactive teaching.
