60 Videos of Practical Ed Tech Tips | Linking Literacy & Learning: Research, Reflection, and Practice | Scoop.it

Last fall I started to put together a playlist of how-to videos that I have created. I called the playlist Practical Ed Tech Tips. In the videos I provide demonstrations of how to use some of my favorite educational technology tools and services. There are now 60 videos in the playlist and I plan to continue to add to the playlist. In the playlist you will find videos on things like creating custom columns on Padlet, finding Creative Commons images within Edmodo, and creating flipped video lessons. The entire playlist is embedded below.

Is Math a Feature of the Universe or a Feature of Human Creation? | Idea Channel | PBS - YouTube

Math is extremely useful, but is it real, or is it simply a figment of the human imagination? This fast, fun, smart video is an episode of PBS's Idea Channel. It's also part of the 10 Unanswered Science Questions series. There's lots of food for thought here, entertainingly introduced by host Mike Rugnetta, and this could easily be used in a classroom to spark discussion about math, science, or the philosophy of those fields.

Research: How Video Production Affects Student Engagement

edX recently commissioned a study of nearly 1,000 videos, segmenting them out by by video type and production style, and discovered this among their other findings:

Shorter videos are more engaging. Engagement drops after 6 minutes.Videos with a more personal feeling are more effective than high-fidelity studio recordings.
Videos in which the instructor speaks quickly and with high enthusiasm are more engaging.Khan-style tablet drawings are more engaging than power point slides.
