How to Make an Infographic in Five Steps | Social Media Today | Digital Journalism | Scoop.it

Infographics are relatively new; new enough for the word "infographic" not to be recognized by my spellchecker. As with all things "new" on the interwebs their comes a near obsessive, cult-like following that insists that this phenomenal new thing will be the massive change to overtake the online world and alter the way we computer forever. So here's a very blatant attempt at trying to capture some of that traffic.

Webdoc: I Goth My World | ARTE

Over 100 Incredible Infographic Tools and Resources (Categorized) | DailyTekk

Over 100 Incredible Infographic Tools and Resources (Categorized) | DailyTekk | Digital Journalism | Scoop.it

I love a good infographic! After all, knowledge is power and the visualization of data makes absorbing information all the easier. Well-designed infographics have a way of pulling me into a subject I’d normally never care to know about. As a designer I can attest to the crazy amount of time it takes to make a compelling, useful infographic. I have to say I knew about many of the great links, resources and tools I’ve linked to here on this post before but I dug deep and found some new and exciting infographic tools that I’m willing to bet you haven’t seen before. Items 1-5 under the Data Visualization Tools and Software category are sufficiently capable of arming even a novice designer with the ability to produce a powerful infographic (though I’m sure experts will find them handy as well). In short, if you love infographics, data visualization and information design as much as I do, you’re going to love this post. As always, leave me a comment with your thoughts and suggestions!

Create RSS Feeds for Any User or Search Query on Google+: Feed+

Create RSS Feeds for Any User or Search Query on Google+: Feed+ | Digital Journalism | Scoop.it

Robin Good: If you are looking for a way to create RSS feeds from Google profile listings and Google+ searches, here is a working solution: Feed+ for Google Chrome.

Feed+ supports two different types of feeds:

a) Public user feeds: this turns all public messages of a selected user on Google Plus and turns it into an RSS feed. To create the feed, you either need to enter the profile ID which you find on the public profile page on Google+, or the full profile url.

b) Search results: this creates an RSS feed from a selected search term. It combines all public posts that include the search phrase.

Go get it here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/eaiadkmgpppkonfodnepmoknpaphnlij?utm_source=labnol.org

(Alternative tool: Google Plus Feed)

Curated Topic Pages Are The Next Big Thing in Content Publishing

Curated Topic Pages Are The Next Big Thing in Content Publishing | Digital Journalism | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Chronological and time-bound sequences have been the overwhelming approach to organize content on the web, just like newspapers had been doing for a long time. Look at blogs, Facebook and Twitter to see how pervasive this type of chronological organization has become.

But as more content becomes available more rapidly, chronological organization doesn't work anymore.

What we need is the option to navigate, quality content, through topic-based structures, maps and collections, where time is only one among other factors helping me slice and dice what I want to see.

"There's simply too much content to consume nowadays, so the great challenge of online publishing is to organize it better. Topic pages are the solution."

From the original article: "The time for topic pages has come.

Chronological and real-time consumption of content just doesn't work anymore.

It's time for topic pages to add a layer of organization on top."

Right on track. 8/10
